The cooling centers in Dumont can be found at Fire Co. 1 on E. Madison Avenue; Fire<br />

<strong>County</strong> freeholders are distributing electric box fans to qualified residents who meet<br />

apply for a fan and get advice on heat-related illnesses.<br />

Camden<br />

Cooling Centers are available in 37 municipalities of Camden <strong>County</strong>. Each is open to<br />

the public from 11AM-3PM every day. There is also a heat-related hotline available for<br />

3rd Floor will be available as a Cooling Center effective July 19, 2011 through July 22,<br />

2011, 8:30am to 4:30pm, and continuing on Monday, July 25th if temperatures remain<br />

above 90 degrees.<br />

Ocean <strong>County</strong>


The Freeholders encouraged residents without air conditioning to seek a cooler space<br />

during the hottest part of the day.<br />

"The Ocean <strong>County</strong> Library is a cool place to be," said Freeholder Director Joseph H.<br />

Vicari. "All of our 21 Ocean <strong>County</strong> Library branches will be open their normal hours this<br />

week and offer a great refuge from the soaring heat and humidity."<br />

Vicari, who is also liaison to both the Library and the Ocean <strong>County</strong> Office of Senior<br />

Services, said residents should check with the Ocean <strong>County</strong> Library Website at<br />

www.theoceancountylibrary.org for information on hours and special events at each<br />

branch.<br />

The Ocean <strong>County</strong> Mall is also a centrally located air-conditioned space on Hooper<br />

Avenue in Toms River and is open every day.<br />

BARNEGAT TOWNSHIP —<br />

The cooling center will be open this week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the<br />

township Recreation Center at 900 West Bay Ave.<br />

Residents who wish to take advantage of the cooling center but do not have<br />

transportation can contact the Barnegat Police Department at 609-698-5000 to arrange<br />

for transportation.<br />

Passaic <strong>County</strong><br />

Those sites include senior centers at 202 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge; 339 South<br />

Branch Road, Hillsborough; 20 S. Third Ave., Manville; 356 Skillman Road, Skillman<br />

(Montgomery); 625 New Brunswick Road, Somerset; 614 First Ave., Raritan and 500<br />

Warrenville Road, Warren. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to about 1 p.m.<br />

Somerset<br />

Somerset <strong>County</strong> Freeholder Patrick Scaglione, the county’s Library Commission liaison,<br />

suggested using the library as a cooling center.<br />

Union


Because of the excessive heat, hours were extended at Union <strong>County</strong>’s two swimming<br />

pools from Wednesday through Sunday. The two pools are open seven days a week.<br />

The main pools at both facilities will be open until 8 p.m. Hours for the dive tank at<br />

Walter E. Ulrich Memorial Pool in Rahway River Park, Rahway, and the baby pools at<br />

Ulrich and John Russell Wheeler Memorial Pool in Wheeler Park, Linden, will be<br />

extended as staff levels permit. For recorded information on Ulrich, call 732-381-4045.<br />

Spray parks are open for children at Union <strong>County</strong>’s Warinanco Park in Elizabeth, Phil<br />

Rizzuto Park in Union, and Snyder Park in Berkeley Heights this week and through the<br />

weekend from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.<br />

Senior citizens in Union <strong>County</strong> can get relief from the heat at their local senior centers,<br />

which have advised the freeholder board that they have extended hours during the hot<br />
