Staff Stars
Awards 2011

The annual staff awards are always special, but this year they
are especially remarkable following the superhuman efforts
of so many people at MTW.
After literally decades of hopes and aspirations, and years
of hard work and planning we have now moved into the
new Tunbridge Wells Hospital. Maidstone Hospital has also
continued to grow with staff combining their skills and
expertise to create new centres of expertise across the Trust.
None of this would have been possible without your hard
work and determination. Everyone plays a part at MTW,
everyone helps us succeed, and everyone contributes to better
standards of patient care. That is why I and our Chairman,
Tony Jones, enjoy the Annual Staff Awards so much – because
they give us all a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate
your achievements, your commitment and your undoubted
professionalism and dedication to patient care.
We all know someone who shines – let them know you’ve

Supporting Others Award
These unsung heroes support others through team
work. They selflessly contribute to the success of teams
and colleagues for the benefit of our patients and their
unassuming contribution means so much to so many.
Exceptional Patient Care Award
This award is for individuals and teams of staff who
do so much to live up to our value: keeping patients at
the heart of everything we do. They have consistently
provided exceptional patient care through the quality
of the services provided and by their friendly and
professional behaviour.
Striving for Excellence Award
Individuals or teams that challenge the status quo to
improve patient care and service efficiency through
innovation and a commitment to service improvement.
Enhancing Our Reputation Award
People who go that extra mile to get the job done
and delight the patients or customers that they serve.
It may not be in their job description but they do it
anyway.
Volunteer of the Year
This award recognises a volunteer who has made a
significant impact on the people and service they
support. This volunteer is courteous and professional,
regularly contributes to the wider team and
demonstrates a positive attitude to volunteering. An
asset to the Trust.
Sandra Graham Clinical Excellence Award
The Sandra Graham Clinical Excellence Award honours
nurses who show exceptional dedication to the ongoing
development of their clinical knowledge and nursing
skills. You could be a student nurse with a year’s
training, or a qualified nurse with 30 years’ experience
– if your colleagues think you’re dedicated to improving
your skills, you could be a winner.
The Sylvia Denton Award for Care and Compassion
This new award is supported by Non-Executive Director
Sylvia Denton and recognises an individual who
consistently shows care and compassion to patients.
This person not only demonstrates exceptional
knowledge, skill and commitment, but does so with a
kindness, empathy and sensitivity that reassures and
instils confidence in their patients, their families or
carers.
Employee of the Year
The individual who through their constructive
contribution, support and positive attitude has made
the most outstanding contribution to the team and
Trust. They will have demonstrated one or more of the
following:
• Worked openly with others
• Embraced good ideas and the opportunity to improve
• Stretched the boundaries of personal performance
• Protected and built upon the Trust’s reputation
Team of the Year
This award is for the team that has made the most
outstanding contribution in the past year. This team
has enhanced the reputation of the Trust through
its commitment to excellent service and will have
demonstrated one or more of the following:
• Has consistently demonstrated outstanding patient
care
• Has gone the ‘extra mile’ or ‘beyond the call of duty’
to provide an exceptional service for staff and/or
patients
• Has developed a new or improved way of working or
system that has benefited other staff and/or patients
and helped to modernise the service
