The Gypsum Associati<strong>on</strong> estimates that nearly 30 billi<strong>on</strong> square feet of gypsum<br />

wallboard are manufactured each year <strong>in</strong> North America. The U.S. al<strong>on</strong>e produces<br />

approximately 15 milli<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ns of new drywall per year. Accord<strong>in</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> estimates of home<br />

c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong> waste provided by the Nati<strong>on</strong>al Associati<strong>on</strong> of Home Builders,<br />

approximately <strong>on</strong>e pound of waste is created for every square foot of c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong><br />

area. This approximati<strong>on</strong> translates <strong>in</strong><str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> about <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>n of scrap per average‐sized<br />

American home result<strong>in</strong>g from end cuts, cut outs, and broken boards.<br />

Accord<strong>in</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Missouri Department of Natural <str<strong>on</strong>g>Resources</str<strong>on</strong>g>, about 5.5% of solid waste<br />

<strong>in</strong> Missouri landfills is c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong> waste, mak<strong>in</strong>g up about 248,192 <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ns c<strong>on</strong>tributed<br />

per year. Of this amount, drywall scrap is estimated <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> make up 21%, or about 51,558<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ns per year.<br />

The agriculture <strong>in</strong>dustry currently uses soil amendments, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g lime and gypsum<br />

products, <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>trol the nutrient‐level and pH‐level of soil for crop fields and gardens.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Renewable</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Resources</str<strong>on</strong>g> will significantly reduce the overall rate of landfill dump<strong>in</strong>g for<br />

scrap pieces of drywall. The process developed by Goehman will use mach<strong>in</strong>ery <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

breakdown the scrap drywall and separate the quality gypsum material from the<br />

c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong> scrap, paper, and other unwanted material. The gypsum is then processed

and ground <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> a f<strong>in</strong>e usable c<strong>on</strong>sistency where it is sold <strong>in</strong> bulk as a soil supplement <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

local farmers and gardeners. Other applicati<strong>on</strong>s of gypsum exist, and as the collecti<strong>on</strong><br />

of drywall scrap supply c<strong>on</strong>t<strong>in</strong>ues <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> grow for Goehman, he will be look<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> these<br />

alternative eco‐friendly soluti<strong>on</strong>s. Also, he is currently collect<strong>in</strong>g other c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong><br />

waste such as asphalt sh<strong>in</strong>gles, wood, and brick, which he will be develop<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the<br />

recycl<strong>in</strong>g process as well.<br />

The recycl<strong>in</strong>g processes offered through <str<strong>on</strong>g>Renewable</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Resources</str<strong>on</strong>g> will provide c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong><br />

companies a soluti<strong>on</strong> that is envir<strong>on</strong>mentally resp<strong>on</strong>sible and offers a positive<br />

alternative <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the current processes for dump<strong>in</strong>g excess c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong> waste.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Renewable</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Resources</str<strong>on</strong>g> will be Goehman's sec<strong>on</strong>d successful start‐up bus<strong>in</strong>ess venture <strong>in</strong><br />
