Introduction<br />
Welcome to Music in St Andrews, a new biannual publication from the Music Centre which<br />
brings together details of all the <strong>music</strong>al <strong>events</strong> planned by the University for the semester,<br />
and many organised by other groups too. It is a measure of the richness of the <strong>music</strong>al<br />
life in this small town that such a substantial publication can be produced, detailing more<br />
than eighty <strong>events</strong> between now and Christmas. We hope that you enjoy browsing this<br />
information in this new format: I, Chris Bragg (our Concerts Administrator, who has compiled<br />
Music in St Andrews), or any of our colleagues listed at the back of the booklet will be very<br />
pleased to have your views and feedback.<br />
As you will see, there is a huge variety of <strong>events</strong> on offer, promoted by University, professional and community groups,<br />
performing numerous different styles of <strong>music</strong> in a wide range of venues. The latter include, in addition to the Younger<br />
Hall and our two beautiful medieval chapels, the Byre Theatre, whose wonderfully designed spaces we look forward to<br />
developing as venues for <strong>music</strong> as well as drama in the coming years, as the University works with the local community to<br />
bring the Byre back to its rightful place at the heart of the cultural life of St Andrews.<br />
On behalf of all the Music Centre’s staff, I wish you happy concert-going and look forward to seeing you at many of the<br />
<strong>events</strong> listed in these pages.<br />
