Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:
August 2012
On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Eastview Campus of White Plains Middle
School, I extend a warm welcome for the 2012-2013 school year.
I join you in looking forward to the new school year. This year will be a very
special year for the Eastview Campus. As we plan for our upcoming 6 th grade Campus
for the 2013-2014 school year, we recognize that this will be the last year at Eastview for
each of our three grades. We will plan together to make sure that it will be a smooth
transition for all of our students as well as a special celebration of all that we have
accomplished over the previous years.
We look forward to meeting with our new sixth grade students and parents. I have
set aside Wednesday evenings between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. for principal’s hours by
appointment. Hopefully, this will accommodate the schedules of parents/guardians who
cannot meet before, during or immediately after school hours. If you want to meet with me
regarding any topic or concern, please contact me at 422-2223 between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00
p.m. during the previous week. I will schedule the appointment. I know that by working
closely together, the school year will be an exciting and productive one for all of us.
This is a reminder that students will continue to be dismissed 65 minutes early on
the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month. School will be dismissed at 1:25 p.m. on
those Wednesdays to allow time for the staff to participate in Professional Learning
Communities. I have enclosed these dates on a separate list (for the refrigerator) to remind
you of the schedule. We appreciate your cooperation as we continue with our Professional
Learning Communities.
Clubs, activities and sports practices will not occur on these dates. We will, make
special arrangements for the scheduled inter-scholastic games.
Be aware that on these afternoons, there will only be one bus run at 1:25 p.m. You
can choose to have your child remain at school until 2:30 p.m., however, it will be your
responsibility to provide transportation home.
I hope that your summer has been filled with many wonderful activities. I also urge
you to rest and relax during the remaining days. As the receipt of this letter indicates, it is
time to get ready for the 2012-2013 school year. I have met with our parent and teacher
leaders and have made plans to continue, as well as build upon our ever-increasing
activities. We look forward to your participation in these activities and know that you will
enjoy them.

Students will report to Eastview on Wednesday, September 5, 2012. All students
should report to the auditorium upon their arrival. School will end at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday
through Friday, September 5 th , 6 th , and 7th. Schools and Offices will be closed on Monday
and Tuesday, September 17 th & 18 th for the Rosh Hashanah Holiday.
Homework assistance will be available during the school year from 2:45 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.
Information regarding the beginning of the Homework Help Program will be announced and
posted on the website as soon as possible.
Enclosed with this letter, as well as on the school website,
you will find a general supply list outlining those supplies, which each child should have on the first day of
school and every day thereafter. Please note that each child must purchase a Student Planner for $5.00.
The planner is designed to provide a means of communication among teachers, students and parents.
Parents should check and initial the planner every evening. Parents who are concerned that all homework
assignments are not written in the planner should have their child ask the teacher to check and to
initial the planner at the end of the period.
Also enclosed, please find our student/parent handbook, emergency dismissal approval
form, PTA packet, Code of Conduct, Dress Code, and the after-school activities booklet .
Reminder: The school doors open at 7:15 a.m.
We encourage all parents to join the White Plains Middle School PTA and to attend
our meetings. Ms. Lori Hardy, parent of a Highlands student and, Ms. Diane Cassidy, parent
of an Eastview student are co-presidents.

I urge parents/guardians to fill out the attached emergency information form and to
send it with your child on the first day of school. The Main Office staff will collect the form.
This information is critical in order for us to reach you or someone you designate, in the event
of an emergency. In addition, if you have recently moved or changed your home telephone or
business telephone number, please contact our school office at 422-2223 before the opening of
school so that we may update this information.
As always, our staff will be able to be reached via e-mail. It is important that one be
aware of the limits of e-mail correspondence. It may be used for quick updates on assignments.
Personal and confidential information or lengthy issues should always be addressed via a
telephone communication or a parent conference.
There is a Redesign Middle School committee that has begun meeting this summer.
We will keep you informed as we develop specific programs designed to promote
achievement for all students at both campuses.
Enjoy the remaining days of summer! The staff and I look forward to seeing you at
our Open House on Wednesday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m., and to working with
you throughout the coming year.
