Description of the course:
The Advanced Human Genetics Course MBG7600 contains lectures covering the fundamental topics of human genetics
and includes the background information related to the structure, functions and defects of chromosomes, developmental
genetics, neurogenetics, cardiovascular genetics, cancer genetics, statistical genetics, mutations, evolutionary genetics,
genome analysis, gene therapy and genetic counseling. The course also contains student presentations in Journal Club
format based on preassigned scientific articles on current topics of human genetics.
Three written examinations will be given:
1. 10 February, 2006: lectures and J Clubs 1/11 - 2/8/06
2. 24 March, 2006: lectures and J Clubs 2/10 - 3/22/06
3. 28 April, 2006: lectures and J Clubs 3/29 - 4/26/06
All examinations will consist of series of questions to which concise, but comprehensive answers are requested
integrating material given during the course. Each exam will account 20% towards the final grade. Each student will give
two J Club-type presentations on preassigned scientific articles. These presentations will account for 40% of the final
grade.
