40th Anniversary
Yamaha Synthesizers
In 1974 Yamaha produced its first portable
analog synthesizer with the SY-1. The
acceptance of synthesizers in the mainstream
rock/pop genre just began to grow
at this time. Over the past 40 years to date,
there have been numerous new developments
in many variants that revolutionised
the synthesizer market with milestones
such as the CS80, DX7, SY77, and the VL1
up to the MOTIF series.
Yamaha synthesizers and workstations were and still are
the first choice for professionals and amateurs in the multifaceted
music business.
In 2014 Yamaha takes this successful history as an
occasion to celebrate. On the subject of Yamaha
synthesizers, there will be a year of new products, bundles,
promotional items, as well as plenty of interesting
information. We are very pleased to announce the first
highlights in the Music Production Guide. So have fun
reading this special edition for the 40th anniversary of
Yamaha synthesizers.
40th Anniversary
Yamaha Synthesizers
The history
The Yamaha headquarters in Japan has
taken all efforts to create a detailed overview
of the history of Yamaha synthesizers
and prepare extensive information and
images from the depths of the archives.
Coinciding with this issue and the start of the Summer
NAMM 2014 the first of a chronology series is to be
released, in which the 40 years of Yamaha synthesizer
development and the resulting products are shown. The
first part covers the analog synthesizers from the years
1974-1983.
Another four parts will appear in the second half of 2014
and are divided into the following sections:
• Chapter 2 (1981-1989, History of FM Synthesizers)
• Chapter 3 (1989-2000, History of PCM,
DSP Synthesizers) vol.1
• Chapter 4 (1989-2000, History of PCM,
DSP Synthesizers) vol.2
• Chapter 5 (2001-2014, History of MOTIF)
The series will be released in Japanese and English. We
will inform you in the news section of the Yamaha website
via the respective publication dates. It is worthwhile to
occasionally stop by there.
40th Anniversary Special
Edition MOTIF XF white
The past 40 years are a memorable time.
In order to meet this occasion Yamaha has
designed a 40th Anniversary MOTIF XF
Music Production Synthesizer Special
Edition.
This limited edition of the MOTIF XF series with the suffix
"WH" is all dressed in white, symbolizing the dedication to
the development in the past 40 years. At the same time the
radiant white sets the sign of a musical future with
increasingly creative expression.
The MOTIF XF WH is - of course - a fully up-to-date
MOTIF XF with the latest OS 1.5, featuring the new HD Reverb
effect algorithms and the new Amplifier Simulation and
Multi Efx effects. In short: The MOTIF XF WH is that one
machine you need to produce and perform your musical
ideas.
MOTIF XF
The MOTIF XF comes with a special
This collection contains Voices that are based on
samples from the following Yamaha synthesizer legends:
The Anniversary Box contains the following:
• Flash Memory Expansion Board
• USB Flash Memory Stick (4GB) including soundsets
2. Yamaha Ultimate Piano Collection
(re-programmed with the HD Reverb of
OS V1.5)
In this set you will find Voices on the basis of Yamaha's
best piano samples: CP1 Piano, S90ES S700, MOTIF
Power Grand/Jazz Grand, MOTIF ES Full Grand
(32 Voices).
4. Chick's MARK V
This set is based on samples of Chick Corea's very
own Fender Rhodes Mark V, which was particularly
modified in collaboration with Harold Rhodes. 13 Voices,
11 velocitiy layers and unlooped sustain phases
are the highlights of this library weighing in
at 400 MB.
3. Yamaha CS-80 Library
This soundset is a new compilation of the best CS-80
sounds based on very high quality samples.
In order to directly start with these voice libraries, the
creates a solid base by expanding the sample memory of
the MOTIF XF.
The content of the 40th Anniversary Box is extended by
discount coupons for software from other manufacturers.
40th Anniversary discount coupons
On the occasion of the 40 years of Yamaha's synthesizer
history several third party suppliers grant 40% discount on
selected products. With these interesting offers you can
individually complement your Anniversary Box.
Arturia has two special offers on the occasion of the
birthday celebration. First, with the Prophet-V there is a
virtual software instrument which reproduces the beginning
and end of the legendary Prophet synthesizers. The first
and the last Prophet synthesizer built by Sequential Circuits
- the Prophet-5 and the Prophet VS, are included in this
software instrument. The second offer contains - matching
the occasion, of course - the Yamaha CS-80 as a virtual
instrument. For more information, visit www.arturia.com
FXpansion offers the DCAM Synth Squad, a package
consisting of four modules. An advanced modeling
technology emulates the character of analog circuits,
resulting in a distinctive sound. Read more on the website
www.fxpansion.com or www.synthsquad.com
Sonic Reality offers something for the real piano fans.
Alan Parsons' Imperial Grand Bösendorfer Model includes
sounds of the 290 Imperial Grand. A rare 97-key
piano which was sampled by Alan Parsons and Dave
Kerzner. The software tool contains two versions of this
extraordinary piano with a size of 916 or 490 MB.
www.sonicreality.com
John Melas, the dedicated software developer from
Greece, has a special offer for his Waveform Editor, the
"must-have" for every owner of a MOTIF XF who wants to
get the most of the sampling and flash options. Actually,
the software already has an unbeatable price-performance
ratio; so, there's no more excuse with this 40% birthday
discount now... www.jmelas.gr
One item could not miss the discount coupons: KARMA
for MOTIF. The legendary KARMA technology is a real
gain for the "extra portion" of inspiration. Whether it
comes to music that is more oriented towards the mainstream
or that may be a bit more experimental: Using
KARMA really helps very much musically. Details can
be found in various issues of our Music Production
Guide (refer to the overall table of contents file History.PDF
to find out the corresponding issues). More info can be
obtained from the developer on www.karma-lab.com
The discount coupons close with a true innovation: In the
near future the Yamaha Music Soft Store will also provide
soundsets for the MOTIF-family. So far the store only
offered software for the keyboard sector like PSR, Tyros,
etc. But now this coupon gives 40% discount for your first
purchase there. Thus, extending your personal sound
library is a real bargain. Visit www.yamahamusicsoft.com
MOTIF XF
Flash Memory
Content
Yamaha is working with third party software
vendors to offer an extensive amount
of free and optional Flash Memory content
for registered MOTIF XF users.
The flash memory content package
„Inspiration In A Flash“ make a perfect first stock for a
sample-library of up to 2 GB for the non-volatile Flash
Memory of the MOTIF XF. This content package
contains three new User Voice Banks, 353 User Waveforms,
458 MB of Samples and 12 User Drum Kits. It focusses on
the sound categories piano, organ, brass & reeds, pads,
synths, oriental instruments and drums.
These Voice Banks can be individually
loaded into the volatile SDRAM of the
MOTIF XF, if no Flash Memory Module is installed.
The „Symphonic Orchestra Library“ features 128 User
Voices, 34 User Waveforms and 336 MB Samples
(979 Keybanks).
The orchestra library produced by Prof. Dr. Peter Jung
(Duisburg-Essen, Germany) is based on recordings that
were created over the past five years with the participation
of two well-known Central European symphony orchestras.
The recorded sounds are very lively and authentic. Some
feature delicate impressions of „disturbances“ that are
typical for strings, such as the sound of slightly hitting the
instrument body with the bow. All recordings were digitally
processed on PCs, collaborating with well-known sound
designers.
In addition to the orchestra sounds the Voice bank also
contains sounds of categories like Electric Organ, Pipe
Organ, Acoustic Piano, and Electric Piano.
To be able to load the complete All-file a Flash Expansion
Memory Module (512 MB or 1 GB) is required. Single
Voices can also be loaded into the SDRAM memory of the
MOTIF XF (volatile sample memory).
This free content for the MOTIF XF can be requested by
sending an e-mail containing the keywords „MOTIF XF
Inspiration & Symphonic“ to:
xfgoodies@easysounds.de
The MOTIF XF user will receive an e-mail from EASY
SOUNDS with a password and a link where the file can
be downloaded.
