parents/guardians of the cadet at the cadet’s expense. In addition, a cadet may face
4. Each cadet room is furnished with the following items: room key ($25 replacement
charge if lost), a bed and innerspring mattress for each occupant, a chest of drawers,
study desk or table, two chairs, desktop bookcase, closet with clothes pole for hangers
Training (RATs). RATs cannot have any food in their rooms until they earn their hat
brass. Food/snacks found improperly stored will be confiscated and thrown away.
7. Over the Counter (OTC) supplements are authorized. Supplements can be effective in
helping you achieve your body composition and performance goals. However, they ARE
NOT a substitute for hard work and a balanced diet. Combine supplement use with a
balanced diet and a strength training program. As with all supplements, do not take more
than the recommended dosage.
a. High school cadets need written parental/guardian authorization. The written
authorization must contain the brand name/type of the supplement(s) being taken and
dosage, if appropriate.
b. The following are examples of authorized (Good) supplements:
(1) Creatine. Creatine helps to provide energy during an –aerobic activities (i.e.
lifting weights). This extra energy combined with hard work in the weight room result in
gains of strength and power. Creatine is absorbed best immediately after a workout or
first thing in the morning. What should I be aware of – 1) The loading phase is not
recommended and 2) HYDRATION is very important! Drink lots of water….1 glass for
every 10 pounds of body weight per day.
(2) Muscle Milk. Muscle Milk provides quality nutrients that are easy to consume
and provide the materials necessary to build muscle. Muscle Milk works best as a postworkout
snack (mixed with water) and as a before bed snack (mixed with milk). What
should I be aware of – 1) Do not consume more than twice per day. The extra calories
will be stored as fat and 2) mixing Muscle Milk with water allows it to be digested
quickly which is ideal after a workout. Mixing it with milk slows the digestion time for
protection throughout the night.
(3) Glutamine. Glutamine is an amino acid made by the body to support immune
function, muscle recovery, reduce muscle breakdown and support intestinal health.
Strenuous exercise can lead to rapid glutamine depletion. Glutamine can be taken in
doses 45 minutes before and/or immediately after a workout.
(4) Whey. Protein supplements are designed to shift the body form a catabolic
state (breaking down) to an anabolic state (building) while providing nutrients needed for
muscle growth, recovery, and energy. Use it (2-300 calories) immediately after workout
and/or as a snack. Extra may be converted to fat.
c. The following are examples of unauthorized (Bad) supplements – NO2, Ephedra,
Ma Huang, Ripped Fuel, Jet Fuel, Hydroxycut, Synephrine, Weight Gaining/Loss
Supplements, CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid), Diuretics, and Energy Drinks.
d. Any questions concerning supplements, good or bad, need to be directed to the
Commandant’s Office.
8. Various clubs, sports and activities may require cadets to purchase additional
equipment, uniforms or accessories.
9. All items brought to WMA are required to be marked with the cadet’s Laundry
Number (issued at matriculation) or SSN. While in uniform cadets are authorized to
wear a watch, one ring and a medical bracelet. Questions about this policy should be
addressed to the Commandant’s Office.
