PRE-CONFERENCE COURSES & EXAMS ASCS Training & Prep Course The ASCS Training & Prep Course is designed to help you prepare for the ASCS examination, and also provides an excellent introduction to HVAC inspection, maintenance and restoration. This eight-hour course covers the core knowledge areas that are essential to proper HVAC system cleaning methods, safety practices, mechanical systems, and indoor air quality issues. Whether you’re new to the industry or preparing for certification, this course is highly recommended. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance. The ASCS examination is offered Friday morning, and again on Sunday as an alternate time. CVI Training & Prep Course The CVI Training & Prep Course provides a structured method for inspecting and assessing HVAC systems. This eight-hour course covers applicable codes and standards, system maintenance, IAQ fundamentals, diagnosing IAQ problems, and reporting findings to building owners. This course is geared to HVAC cleaning professionals, environmental consultants and anyone else who inspects HVAC systems. Participants receive a certificate of attendance, as well as six credits toward ASCS recertification. The CVI examination is offered Friday morning, and again on Sunday as an alternate time. GENERAL SESSIONS NADCA Verification of HVAC System Cleanliness NADCA’s ACR Standard lists three methods that can be used to verify the cleanliness of an HVAC system, which are: n Method 1: Visual Inspection n Method 2: Surface Comparison Testing n Method 3: NADCA Vacuum Test All three methods will be taught and demonstrated in the Hands On Session. Each attendee will have the opportunity to see and use the equipment including the air pump, cassettes and templates for the NADCA Vacuum Test. Every prospective and certified ASCS technician should be familiar with the NADCA Vacuum Test, which will be practiced during the “Hands-On” session of the Fall Technical Conference. Duct Sealing & Leakage Testing National studies have demonstrated that home heating and cooling consumes about 40 percent of home utility costs, a fact that every HVAC cleaning company should let their customers know. Duct sealing has the potential to reduce home heating and cooling costs, reduce temperature differences between rooms, and increase air circulation. It also improves air quality by preventing contaminants from the attic, crawl and wall cavity from entering the air stream in the return duct. With all these benefits considered, duct sealing is an ideal add-on service for any air duct cleaning company. This session will feature classroom discussions about duct sealing and leakage testing, and also hands-on training. Equipment Maintenance Most NADCA members make a considerable investment when they purchase tools and equipment. That investment is protected when technicians learn how to properly maintain and monitor their company’s tools and equipment. Over time, it might be necessary to repair/replace defective parts, perform preventative maintenance, and diagnose mechanical problems. This session will cover those issues and more, and will provide attendees with the knowledge they need to extend the life of their equipment. CONFERENCE SESSIONS Fall Technical Conference attendees may choose between the Technician Track and the Advanced Track. Each track offers a combination of traditional classroom training and hands-on training.
