MEMORY GAME<br />

Gallery Activity - 20 minutes<br />

AIM: To explore the importance of first impressions and<br />

develop skills of observation and memory.<br />

SKILLS:<br />

§ Improves observation skills.<br />

§ Develops child’s ability to notice and mentally record details.<br />

§ Encourages a broad-minded attitude towards looking at art.<br />

STEP-BY-STEP:<br />

1. Choose a piece of art work to look at with your group.<br />

2. Ask the children to look closely at the painting suggesting<br />

things to consider (see Ideas for looking at paintings).<br />

3. After a short time ask the children to turn their backs to the<br />

work.<br />

4. Going round the group, ask each child to describe one thing<br />

he/she remembers about the painting.<br />

5. Ask the children to turn around and face the painting again.<br />

As a group, discuss all the things they hadn’t noticed or<br />

mentioned before.<br />
