This example Water Efficient Management Plan (WEMP) is designed to help you complete your own plan. Any reference to business/staff names, water use figures and actions used in this example are coincidental and fictional. 1. Introduction As the main provider of water and wastewater services across the State, the Corporation is committed to providing a sustainable water service for current and future generations. In October 2009, the Corporation released its 50 year plan, Water Forever, Towards Climate Resilience to provide a sustainable water service for future generations living in Perth and Mandurah. The plan addresses the challenge of providing water for all: • In an even drier climate • With twice as many people • With less environmental impact Adopting a portfolio approach, the plan identifies over 800 gigalitres of water supply and demand options (Figure 1). By 2060 working in partnership with the community, the Corporation will: • Reduce water usage by 25% • Recycle up to 60% of wastewater in Perth-Mandurah • Prepare a diverse range of water source options for future development Figure 1: Portfolio of water options As part of its community focus on water conservation, the Government requires all WA business customers using more than 20,000kL of scheme water per year, to participate in the Water Efficiency Management Plan (WEMP) program. This involves: • Developing a Water Efficiency Management Plan (WEMP) detailing water saving targets, actions/initiatives and • Providing annual progress reports on water saving targets, actions/initiatives These are requirements under the Water Agencies (Water Use) By-laws 2010 and are mandatory. 1.1 Objectives The objectives of the WEMP are to: • Assess current water use on site • Identify inefficiencies and potential water savings • Set a target for improving water use • Prepare an action plan and implement water conservation actions to progress towards your target • Provide a process for annual reporting on implementation of water conservation actions 1.2 Methodology The major steps involved in developing a WEMP are: • Collection of information and water use data particularly in high use areas • Development of a water balance table (section 3.2) Your logo here 3
