English Assessment
All incoming students will take an English assessment test at
Advising & Registration, consisting of a grammar section and a
written essay to assess grammatical knowledge, writing ability
and readiness for freshman composition (ENG 111). Results are
evaluated in conjunction with SAT/ACT scores.
Foreign Language Placement
Meredith College believes that a well-educated woman should be a
competent communicator in at least one foreign language. The faculty
of Meredith requires foreign language study through the third
semester (205) level. We encourage you to build on the knowledge
you’ve begun in high school by taking courses early in your college
career. If you studied French or Spanish, an assessment of your
skill level during Advising & Registration or Orientation will help
us place you in the level most appropriate for you—or may indicate
that you have already met the general education requirement in
foreign language. If you studied a language other than Spanish or
French and would like to continue, please consult the department
head in Foreign Languages and Literatures, Dr. Kevin Hunt, (919)
760-8422 or kevinh@meredith.edu.
