The 2012 GreenFest Committee is excited to present the 4th annual GreenFest, a week-long celebration <strong>of</strong> sustainability<br />

and Aztec Pride!<br />

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE:<br />

We encourage ALL students to participate in this year’s GreenFest competition. Put together a group <strong>of</strong> at least 10<br />

friends and register online for this exciting week <strong>of</strong> events and activities. <strong>Student</strong> organizations may still register as a<br />

student team under their student organization name, but will be competing against all student teams.<br />

IMPORTANT DATES:<br />

— Monday, March 12th @ 1:00pm: Voluntary Participant Info Meeting in Aztec Mesa, Room 103<br />

— Friday, March 23rd @ 4:00pm: Submit application online at as.sdsu.edu/greenfest/spirit.php.<br />

— Monday, April 2nd @ 1:00pm or Tuesday, April 10th @ 1:00pm: A team representative MUST attend one <strong>of</strong> these<br />

Mandatory Info Meetings in Aztec Mesa, Room 103<br />

EARTH DAY 5K RUN/WALK<br />

(Extra Credit)<br />

<strong>SDSU</strong> Campus, 9:00am - 11:00am<br />

Event Description<br />

• Come join your fellow Aztecs and the <strong>SDSU</strong> Community<br />

on Earth Day, Sunday April 22nd, for the inaugural Green-<br />

Fest Earth Day 5K Run/Walk to help us kick-<strong>of</strong>f GreenFest,<br />

San Diego State University's (<strong>SDSU</strong>) largest event!<br />

• At the end <strong>of</strong> the race enjoy music, give-a-ways, and Kid's<br />

Diaper Dash for ages 1-9!<br />

• A percentage <strong>of</strong> each registration will be given to the<br />

<strong>SDSU</strong> Children's Center to help build and maintain their<br />

gardens as a food source for the center and educational<br />

and interactive activity for the children.<br />

Participation Requirements<br />

• <strong>Teams</strong> will receive 25 points if AT LEAST THREE (3) members<br />

register for the race. Send an email to<br />

greenfest@mail.sdsu.edu with the names <strong>of</strong> the members<br />

who register before April 2nd to receive points.<br />

MONDAY - APRIL 23rd<br />

FASHION AND MUSIC AWARDS<br />

Aztec Green, 7:00pm - 10:00pm<br />

Music Video Competition<br />

Event Description<br />

• Remix a catchy, popular song and prepare a music video<br />

incorporating the <strong>Student</strong> Team’s name, Aztec Pride, and<br />

sustainability.<br />

Participation Requirements<br />

• MUSIC VIDEOS DUE: To the <strong>Associated</strong> <strong>Student</strong>s Business<br />

Office in Aztec Mesa 110 by Wednesday, April 18th by<br />

4:00pm.<br />

Fashion Show<br />

Event Description<br />

• Create outfits with recycled materials and strut your stuff!<br />

Sustainably that is! “Captain Planet” is the theme and each<br />

team will need to create three (3) outfits to showcase at the<br />

event.<br />

Participation Requirements<br />

• DESCRIPTION OF OUTFITS (300 word count max) DUE: To<br />

the <strong>Associated</strong> <strong>Student</strong>s Business Office in Aztec Mesa 110<br />

by Wednesday, April 18th by 4:00pm.


TUESDAY - APRIL 24th<br />

<strong>SDSU</strong> TAKES OVER THE BALL PARK<br />

Aztec Green, 7:00pm - 10:00pm<br />

Event Description<br />

• Help <strong>SDSU</strong> take over Petco Park to cheer on and watch<br />

the San Diego Padres defeat the Washington Nationals,<br />

featuring <strong>SDSU</strong> Alumni Stephen Strasburg!<br />

Participation Requirements<br />

• <strong>Teams</strong> will receive 25 points if AT LEAST THREE (3) members<br />

purchase tickets to the event! Ticket prices will include a<br />

round trip trolley pass for the first 1500 students to get you<br />

to and from the game!<br />

• RECEIPT OF TICKETS PURCHASED DUE: To the <strong>Associated</strong><br />

<strong>Student</strong>s Business Office in Aztec Mesa 110 by Wednesday,<br />

April 18th by 4:00pm.<br />

WEDNESDAY – April 25th<br />

COMPOST LIVE ART SHOW<br />

ENS Field, 10:00am - 2:00pm<br />

Event Description<br />

• <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Teams</strong> will decorate compost bins to be used<br />

during the GreenFest Festival on Saturday and in East<br />

and West Commons during the year!<br />

• Team members may come out any time between<br />

10:00am and 2:00pm to decorate.<br />

Participation Requirements<br />

• Environmentally responsible materials will be provided<br />

but if desired, teams may bring their own supplies as long<br />

as they don’t fall under the “do not use” materials list.<br />

• <strong>Student</strong>s are encouraged to decorate their bin relating to<br />

sustainability and protecting the environment however<br />

they see fit. Please keep in mind these bins will be on<br />

display and any inappropriate themes (such as drugs and<br />

alcohol) will disqualify your team from the competition.<br />

IN CONVERSATION WITH COLIN<br />

BEAVAN, THE “NO IMPACT MAN”<br />

Parma Payne Alumni Center, 6:00pm - 8:00pm<br />

Event Description<br />

• This year’s Keynote Address features Colin Beavan, the “No<br />

Impact Man”, who will tell <strong>of</strong> his new movie documenting<br />

his one year <strong>of</strong> making zero impact on the world.<br />

Participation Requirements<br />

• <strong>Teams</strong> will receive 25 points if AT LEAST THREE (3)<br />

members attend and check in with a designated Green-<br />

Fest volunteer.<br />

THURSDAY - April 26th<br />

SUSTAIN YOUR ROOTS<br />

(Extra Credit)<br />

ENS Field, 10:00am - 4:00pm<br />

Event Description<br />

• Get your passport and take a trip about the world in less<br />

than an hour! Experience an array <strong>of</strong> interactive booths<br />

featuring a variety <strong>of</strong> cultures and diversities!<br />

Participation Requirements<br />

• <strong>Teams</strong> will receive 25 points if AT LEAST THREE (3)<br />

members attend and check in with a designated Green-<br />

Fest volunteer to get a passport to get stamped at<br />

various booths at the event.<br />

FRIDAY– April 27th<br />

<strong>SDSU</strong> GREEN CHALLENGE<br />

50 Points<br />

Aztec Mesa, 12:30pm - 2:00pm<br />

Event Description<br />

• Get ready for the challenge! <strong>Teams</strong> will solve a series <strong>of</strong><br />

riddles that will lead teams through the <strong>SDSU</strong> campus to<br />

a variety <strong>of</strong> “green” locations.<br />

Participation Requirements<br />

• Each student team will appoint a maximum <strong>of</strong> three (3)<br />

members to represent them in the <strong>SDSU</strong> Green Challenge.<br />

GREENFEST THANK YOU<br />

RECEPTION<br />

Aztec Mesa, 2:00pm - 3:00pm<br />

As a token <strong>of</strong> our appreciation for your participation and<br />

hard work in the GreenFest activities, the GreenFest Executive<br />

Committee would like to invite you and your team to a<br />

thank you reception following the Green Challenge. Light<br />

refreshments will be provided by Cheba Hut.<br />

SATURDAY – April 28th<br />

Participants will receive the<br />

1st Place – 25 POINTS<br />

2nd Place – 20 POINTS<br />

3rd Place – 15 POINTS<br />

PERFECT ATTENDANCE<br />

• Participants that participate in ALL <strong>of</strong> the GreenFest<br />

Competition events will be rewarded 25 points.<br />

• Perfect Attendance Events Include: GreenFest Earth Day<br />

5K Run/Walk, Fashion Show Competition, Music Video<br />

Competition, <strong>SDSU</strong> Takes Over the Ball Park, GreenFest Live<br />

Art Show, Sustain Your Roots, In Conversation with Colin<br />

Beaven, “The No Impact Man”, and <strong>SDSU</strong> Green Challenge<br />

GREENFEST COMPETITION PRIZES<br />

• As with the GreenFest tradition, the overall prize will be<br />

awarded to the winning student team at the GreenFest’s<br />

Festival on Saturday, April 28th, on the Main Stage at the event.<br />

GreenFest Competition Rules/Guidelines Book<br />

by Monday, April 2nd<br />

• Will be emailed to your GreenFest Representative, posted on the<br />

GreenFest Website, and distributed at the GreenFest Competition<br />

Informational Meeting at 1:00pm in Aztec Mesa 103.<br />

• Will be available on the GreenFest Website at<br />
