Wildcrafting - Explore the grounds of Shepherd Valley’s beautiful campus in search of medicinal
and healing plants. These are the same plants the native peoples would have used to feed themselves
or treat common ailments. We will draw on traditional wisdom as we harvest these plants
with respect and gratitude. Activities may include creating salves, syrups and spritzers, and finding
some edible plants to snack on.
Out and About - Who’s up for a road trip Explore the nature centers and museums of Boulder
County and beyond. With excursions to the Butterfly Pavilion, local farms, museums at CU, and
more, every day will bring us to a new location full of fun and learning.
Circus Arts - Big fun under the big top! Learn circus arts such as unicycling, juggling, stilt-walking
and more. Practice the art of face painting and costume design. The camp will culminate with
a performance where campers can demonstrate their newfound skills.
Theatre - Young actors will enter a world where imagination, creativity, and poetry abound.
Each camp day will be filled with a mixture of theater, art, music, dance, and classic fables/myths/
folk tales. The program culminates in a performance that will bring these characters to life!
Games - Each day will be filled with a variety of cooperative games such as amoeba tag, sardines
and taffy-pull, campers will have a blast as they develop the capacity to work together.
Outdoor Adventure - Enjoy the great outdoors with activities such as hiking, fishing and treeclimbing.
Children will have a great time exploring new activities as well as enjoying old favorites.
Bee Care - Children will safely observe and interact with bees. Participants will learn about
beehive observation and manipulation and will use a hive-smoker to harvest honey. They will also
learn a bee-language and the importance of honeybees in the food cycle. We will also explore
some of the many uses of beeswax like making candles, wax figures or lotions. In addition to
learning about the domesticated honeybee, we’ll explore the world of native, wild bees, native
plants, and other pollinators.
Mandarin - Shepherd Valley Waldorf School Mandarin teacher Tra Ling will bring the students
into the world of Chinese language and culture. Through songs, stories, games and of course
food, students will be introduced to sounds and shapes of Mandarin Chinese, which has been the
national language of China since the 14th century and which has the most native speakers in the
world today.
