A HONEYCOMB RECEIVER
Having had very good results with
my honeycomb set, I thought perhaps
somebod)' else might want to build
a lOUnilar set. This type of set is
perhap'l the best on the market today.
It is a three-circuit regenerat.ive
type receiver. This set may be
made to respond to all bands of wave
lengths, from amateurs -USing 150 and
~...oo metres to the trans-Atlantjc
stations usiDg 18,000: and 20,000

metres, by substituting different ai1.e
coils. Most people now however are
:nterested in broadcasting which is
carried on around the 200-500 metre
band. Suitable coils for this work
are 75 turns on the primary, 50 on
the secondary, and 50 or 35 on the
tickler. TIle primary conden8Cr
(C ]) has 43 plates an.d is connected
as shown to El series-parallel !;witch
(S.P.). The secondary condenser
(C.2) has 2] plates although if yonr
herial is rather short a .f3-plate one
will do very nicely here. A little
experimenting might be necessary
before the set will work to your satisfaction.
If the set will not oscillate,
go over the circuit carefully. If

t his is found to be O.K. reverse the
leads to the "A" battery. Make sure
that· the positive side of the "A"
hatlery is eonneeted to the grid of
the tube as shown, also that the
positive side of the ('B" battery is
tonnccted to the plate of your tube.
Reversing the tickler leads will
sometimes bring in the signals much
fltronger. The t.wo condenser dials
ari' 3 1 04 in., and the knobs are 114
in. ']'his gives the set a very un..ilorm
appearance. A fpw of the most
distant stations (hroadcasting) that
r have beard are Los Angeles, Kansas
City, Atlanta, Pine Buff and
Omaha.
