CHALLENGES AHEAD
The North Texas RCFL set its sights on achieving
a number of challenging goals during
FY 2004. The first is to obtain ASCLD/LAB
accreditation. Director Morris believes that accreditation
will strengthen the RCFL’s service
offerings, and will set a positive example for
other digital evidence laboratories operating
in the state and the rest of the Nation.
Other goals for FY 2004 are to:
• Enhance lab capabilities to handle a projected
increased caseload
• Recruit and train six additional Examiners
• Continue education and training for current
Examiners
• Enhance the no-cost training program for
area law enforcement on digital evidence
and computer related issues
• Raise law enforcement’s awareness that
computers and other digital devices contain
valuable evidence, no matter what the
nature of the crime
• Collaborate with state and Federal prosecutors
to create search warrant language
and consent-to-search forms pertaining to
computers and digital evidence
• Continue evaluating the services provided
to agencies in its service area
• Continue working on research and development
projects
