CHINA PEAK OPENS NEW FIREBOWL TERRAIN PARK
Lakeshore, California … With the growth in the quality of terrain parks through the Sierra,
including two of the most highly regarded parks in the nation at Mammoth and Northstar, new
China Peak owner Tim Cohee knew his resort needed a major facelift in its terrain park for the
2010/11 season.
“It didn’t take long in conversations with our terrain park staff and the top local riders to learn
we needed to make a big change if we wanted to build a reputation for offering a top level
terrain park,” said Cohee. “The good news is we had the ideal location that all the top guys felt
could be one of the best in the Sierra, properly designed and managed.”
With long time veteran Mountain Manager Rich Bailey in support of the dramatic change,
Terrain Park managers Eliot Jones and Northstar recruit Branden Heaps put to paper their plans
to build the new Firebowl Terrain Park, complete with its own lift, terrain, new jump lines and
music system. “Eliot, with his experience on this mountain, and Branden, coming from his work
with one of the top park crews in the nation, formed a great team to move our park to a whole
new level,” said Bailey. “What they’re introducing this season will be several times better than
what we’ve had in the past. The location is about perfect in every sense, and with Branden’s
master welder skills, they’ll introduce a number of big time features.”
When the word spread about China Peak’s intent to design an all-new park, it drew the
attention of riders from around Tahoe, specifically Silas Stannard, a well known top pro who
grew up at Sierra Summit (former resort name, 1982-2010), but headed to Tahoe years ago to
train in a more professional environment. “When I heard from my friends around the area
China Peak was going to build a new park in Firebowl, I knew it was time for me to return to my

home resort,” said Stannard, who competes on the world stage throughout North America. “I
met with Tim, Rich, Eliot and Branden, and I knew they were going to bring a whole new vibe to
the park. I can’t wait to be part of the new scene at The Peak.”
Stannard will head up a new team of top skiers and riders, the China Peak All-Stars, a group of a
dozen of the region’s best who will compete in regional and state wide events, as well as train
and put on demonstrations at China Peak during weekends and holidays. The resort is also
introducing the inaugural Central California Ski & Snowboard Series, featuring 7-10 high school
ski and snowboard teams from throughout the region that will compete in slope style, giant
slalom and skier/boarder cross starting in January. Clovis Unified School District will be fielding
three teams, with competitors expected from Sierra High and the Fresno District.
China Peak Mountain Resort is located at Huntington Lake in Lakeshore, California, 40 miles south of
Yosemite National park, 65 miles east of Fresno. It features 1,300 acres of terrain with a 1,700 foot
vertical rise from a base elevation of 7,000 feet, 11 lifts and an average annual snowfall of 300 inches. In
addition to full resort amenities, the newly remodeled China Peak Inn features 48 guest rooms,
restaurant & bar. For complete resort information visit www.skichinapeak.com.
