Toastmasters or Halloween
by Terry Barridge ACS, ALS
We all had our choices. A fantastic night of goulish fun was the treat for our combined celebrations for Halloween and Toastmasters 85th Birthday. As the sun went down members really got into the spirit of the
occasion with scary Table Topics, the wicked witch Kam casting a spell over the audience before riding off on her broom. Little Devil President Amity Anna claimed the souls of the audience. The Twin goblins
captured the hearts of the members with the white masked Raider scarimng her way into the records as the scariest Tale Topic speaker. The gargoile in black gave a speech about halloween scaring the daylight
out of all the sobering spirits. The photo has 45 members there unfortunately some of the spirit faded away in the reproduction, or is it that certain spirits can't have their image captured, we'll never know, too much
of an errie night. You'll notice the foreign hovering image near little Devil's knee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Helping the Deaf to Speak
by Andrew Monaghan ACS, ALS
Toastmasters love speaking. Melbourne’s Taralye school teaches deaf and
hearing-impaired children to speak too. Members of Elsternwick Toastmasters
had an end of year fundraiser to support this important charity. Members
of Balaclava Toastmasters club and guests were inspired to take part in a
combined evening of entertainment, meals and murder.
Murder Yes, the entertainment was a murder-mystery event. Everyone
was an invited guest at Santa’s North Pole headquarters, but a foul murder
derailed the scheduled activities at Christmas Land Resort. Everybody became
sleuths to reveal the murderer. Even Santa himself was a suspect.
The night was organised by Elsternwick’s irrepressible Ian Wallace and led by
none other than “Super Elf”, pictured here (alias Andrew Monaghan). Those
attending adopted roles for the night as – Members of Santa’s extended
family, the “Claus Clan”; mischievous North Pole workers; Executive elves; Toy
industry tycoons; and Resort industry hot-shots. Each had a motive, but who
done it A combination of cunning, skill and fun activities revealed the guilty,
and Christmas was saved.
Elsternwick Toastmasters runs lots of special activities. That’s why it should be
your second Club in 2010.
