ABOUT SCSE
History of computing discipline at VIT University dates
back to 1993, when the Department of Computer Science
& Engineering was established to meet the demand for
well-qualified computer professionals. Subsequently, the
Departments of Computer Applications and Information
Technology were established. The School of Computing
Sciences (SCS) was conceived in the year 2004-05 and
came into existence by consolidating achievements and
core strengths of the aforesaid departments. Later, it has
bifurcated into two schools as SCSE and SITE in the year
2009. The School offers research programmes such as
M.S. (by research), and Ph.D. All engineering, MSc, and
B.Sc. programmes have been accredited by Institution of
Engineering & Technology, UK (IET) during the year
2004-05. The school has one of the best infrastructure
including domain-specific laboratories associated with the
technical divisions. Many of these labs are sponsored by
industry leaders like IBM, Intel, Cisco, Sun Microsystems,
and Microsoft. The School has a good record of organising
seminars, workshops, symposia and conferences in
emerging technological areas.
ABOUT VIT
VIT University is one of the fastest growing institutes
and a center of excellence in higher technical
education. VIT University is structured around nine
schools of study. A student is registered in one of the
schools, depending on the degree/programme he/she is
interested in pursuing.

Research centers are also part of the schools,
encouraging interdepartmental collaboration and
opportunity for students to participate in exciting
research projects. The university offers 18
Undergraduate and 35 Postgraduate programmes.
Programmes apart from research programmes leading
to M.Phil and Ph.D degrees.
It has over 20, 000 students, about 1000+ faculty
members and about 1000 + administrative and
supporting staff. The international linkages of the
institute help the students to get global education. The
VIT university campus spread over 350 acres is located
at Vellore, a district headquarters town between
Chennai and Bangalore. The strategic location of VIT

<strong>Workshop</strong> Theme
Now <strong>day</strong>s, Multi-cores have become more and more
popular. Software developers can no longer rely on
sequential programming because increasing clock
speed alone will not speed up the application; instead to
gain competitive advantage and to exploit multi core,
developer must learn how to properly design their
application to run in a multi-threaded environment
rather than single-thread. Multi-core architectures have
a single processor package that contains two or more
processor "execution cores," or computational engines,
and deliver—with appropriate software—fully parallel
execution of multiple software threads. Hyper-
Threading Technology enables additional threads to
operate on each core.
