ABOUT SCSE<br />
History of computing discipline at <strong>VIT</strong> <strong>University</strong> dates<br />
back to 1993, when the Department of Computer Science<br />
& Engineering was established to meet the demand <strong>for</strong><br />
well-qualified computer professi<strong>on</strong>als. Subsequently, the<br />
Departments of Computer Applicati<strong>on</strong>s and In<strong>for</strong>mati<strong>on</strong><br />
Technology were established. The School of Computing<br />
Sciences (SCS) was c<strong>on</strong>ceived in the year 2004-05 and<br />
came into existence by c<strong>on</strong>solidating achievements and<br />
core strengths of the a<strong>for</strong>esaid departments. Later, it has<br />
bifurcated into two schools as SCSE and SITE in the year<br />
2009. The School offers research programmes such as<br />
M.S. (by research), and Ph.D. All engineering, MSc, and<br />
B.Sc. programmes have been accredited by Instituti<strong>on</strong> of<br />
Engineering & Technology, UK (IET) during the year<br />
2004-05. The school has <strong>on</strong>e of the best infrastructure<br />
including domain-specific laboratories associated with the<br />
technical divisi<strong>on</strong>s. Many of these labs are sp<strong>on</strong>sored by<br />
industry leaders like IBM, Intel, Cisco, Sun Microsystems,<br />
and Microsoft. The School has a good record of organising<br />
seminars, workshops, symposia and c<strong>on</strong>ferences in<br />
emerging technological areas.<br />
ABOUT <strong>VIT</strong><br />
<strong>VIT</strong> <strong>University</strong> is <strong>on</strong>e of the fastest growing institutes<br />
and a center of excellence in higher technical<br />
educati<strong>on</strong>. <strong>VIT</strong> <strong>University</strong> is structured around nine<br />

<strong>VIT</strong> university campus spread over 350 acres is located<br />
at Vellore, a district headquarters town between<br />
Chennai and Bangalore. The strategic locati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>VIT</strong><br />
adds value to the educati<strong>on</strong> by c<strong>on</strong>stant interacti<strong>on</strong> with<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Workshop</str<strong>on</strong>g> Theme<br />
Now <str<strong>on</strong>g>day</str<strong>on</strong>g>s, <strong>Multi</strong>-cores have become more and more<br />
popular. Software developers can no l<strong>on</strong>ger rely <strong>on</strong><br />
sequential programming because increasing clock<br />
speed al<strong>on</strong>e will not speed up the applicati<strong>on</strong>; instead to<br />
gain competitive advantage and to exploit multi core,<br />
developer must learn how to properly design their<br />
applicati<strong>on</strong> to run in a multi-threaded envir<strong>on</strong>ment<br />
rather than single-thread. <strong>Multi</strong>-core architectures have<br />
a single processor package that c<strong>on</strong>tains two or more<br />
processor "executi<strong>on</strong> cores," or computati<strong>on</strong>al engines,<br />
and deliver—with appropriate software—fully parallel<br />
executi<strong>on</strong> of multiple software threads. Hyper-<br />
Threading Technology enables additi<strong>on</strong>al threads to<br />
operate <strong>on</strong> each core.<br />
