Season 12. Astoria Sunday Market Opens May 13
The Northwest Lion & Dragon
Dancers from Portland,
Oregon, will help Astoria Sunday
Market celebrate opening day on
May 13. “This is a fun and energetic
group of young performers
doing traditional Chinese dance,”
says Market Director Cyndi Mudge.
“With the recent ground breaking
in Astoria for the Garden of
Surging Waves Chinese Cultural
Park, having the Northwest Lion
& Dragon Dancers kick off our season
seemed an appropriate way to
bring added excitement to opening
day.” Astoria Sunday Market is in
its twelfth season of bringing fresh
produce and other products grown
or made by vendors to the heart
of historic downtown Astoria. Astoria
Sunday
Market is
open from 10
am to 3 pm
every Sunday
starting May
13 and running
through
October 14.
Boot Glam Art Jam
needs yer boots
Astoria Sunday Market invites
you to donate a pair of rubber
boots that you’ve personalized.
You can glam them up, let your
imagination fly as you use the
rubber boot as an art canvas,
create a rubber boot sculpture, or
repurpose the boots into something
new!
The Market is teaming up with
the Women’s Resource Center to
create the first Rubber Boot Glam
& Art Jam in September. We’re
kicking things off May 12 with an
Art Boot Camp where participants
can decorate a rubber boot
as an entry for our Rubber
Boot Fashion and Art event in
September.
We’re accepting submissions
throughout the season. The boots
will be displayed in the windows
of Liberty Theater on 12th Street
throughout the summer. The Rubber
Boot Glam and Art Jam takes
place September 21 & 22 when
the boots will appear in a fashion
and art event and culminate in
a public voting event for the top
three wearable boots. To vote,
simply drop money in your favorite
boot. The boot that raises the
most money wins a pair of Bog
Boots! All funds raised from
your votes will be donated to the
Women’s Resource Center helping
to kick abuse to the curb!
Other prizes will be given to
Best Boot Art, Best Glammed up
Boot, Most Creative Repurposing
of a Boot, and more!.
Decorated and repurposed
boots will then be sold and
auctioned off with proceeds
benefitting Astoria Sunday Market
programs and downtown revitalization
projects.
Boot submissions may be
dropped off any Sunday at the
Astoria Sunday Market portable
office parked at 12th and Duane
or during the rest of the week at
Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of
Commerce.
