Ian Sullivan spent the<br />

summer study<strong>in</strong>g at the<br />

Arabic Language Institute at<br />

Hunter College <strong>in</strong> NYC. He is<br />

a senior at Sarah Lawrence<br />

and will cont<strong>in</strong>ue his study<br />

of energy and economics as<br />

a research assistant to the<br />

economics department chair,<br />

who is work<strong>in</strong>g on carbon<br />

economies and environmental<br />

discount rates. He also plans<br />

to take an applied fieldwork<br />

course and <strong>in</strong>ternship. Ian<br />

is cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g the campus<br />

newspaper that he started last<br />

year and prepar<strong>in</strong>g for, well,<br />

the real world.<br />

Brea Heidelberg celebrated<br />

her graduation from Drexel<br />

University's LeBow College<br />

of Bus<strong>in</strong>ess with Dr. David<br />

Seward, WT's Director of<br />

College Counsel<strong>in</strong>g. Brea's<br />

award-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g essay <strong>in</strong> the<br />

"Beh<strong>in</strong>d Every Graduate"<br />

competition credited Seward<br />

with teach<strong>in</strong>g her to love other<br />

cultures and languages, as<br />

well as <strong>in</strong>still<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> her the<br />

importance of diversity. Dr.<br />

Seward received an expensepaid<br />

trip to Philadelphia,<br />

attended pre-commencement<br />

activities, and was honored at<br />

the commencement ceremony.<br />

He received a $2,000 prize, and<br />

a $2,000 donation was made to<br />

W<strong>in</strong>chester Thurston School.<br />

2001<br />

Angela Ambroz is mov<strong>in</strong>g<br />

to Suva, Fiji <strong>in</strong> October 2007<br />

where she’ll be work<strong>in</strong>g for the<br />

next two years with the Pacific<br />

Islands Applied Geoscience<br />

Commission as a natural<br />

resource economist. She<br />

worked at the International<br />

Food Policy Research Institute<br />

<strong>in</strong> Wash<strong>in</strong>gton, DC as a<br />

summer <strong>in</strong>tern (aga<strong>in</strong>).<br />

Emily Flechtner is teach<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong> a bil<strong>in</strong>gual k<strong>in</strong>dergarten <strong>in</strong><br />

Munich, Germany follow<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

year as a Congress-Bundestag<br />

Scholar. She and her mother,<br />

Joan Flechtner, WT North<br />

Hills Campus teacher, have<br />

established an exchange<br />

between their Pre-K classes.<br />

As <strong>in</strong>ternational buddies<br />

they have sent each other<br />

photos of their schools and<br />

holiday celebrations and<br />

created classroom books with<br />

draw<strong>in</strong>gs, photos, and m<strong>in</strong>i<br />

bios of all their students. This<br />

year they hope to expand the<br />

relationship with monthly<br />

letters filled with songs,<br />

recipes, and stories to read <strong>in</strong><br />

both English and German.<br />

Ryan Schulz is the director<br />

of a gymnastics program<br />

<strong>in</strong> Morgantown, WV. Her<br />

husband started a new job<br />

with West<strong>in</strong>ghouse. Ryan<br />

is consider<strong>in</strong>g pursu<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

doctorate <strong>in</strong> psychology.<br />

Claire Blauste<strong>in</strong> is liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

Wash<strong>in</strong>gton, DC and lov<strong>in</strong>g<br />

everyth<strong>in</strong>g except the humidity.<br />

She is the manag<strong>in</strong>g editor<br />

for a new cook<strong>in</strong>g Web site,<br />

Cookth<strong>in</strong>k, launched <strong>this</strong> past<br />

summer. The Web site offers<br />

recipes and reference, as well<br />

as an e-mail newsletter called<br />

Root Source, which talks about<br />

a different <strong>in</strong>-season food every<br />

week. It has been a challenge<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g part of a startup and<br />

the only employee, but really<br />

wonderful as well. She is do<strong>in</strong>g<br />

music freelance writ<strong>in</strong>g on the<br />

side, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g work for NPR.org,<br />

and s<strong>in</strong>ce she was runner-up for<br />

the Michael Oliver Young Writer<br />

of the Year competition at BBC<br />

Music Magaz<strong>in</strong>e <strong>this</strong> year, she<br />

should have a piece published<br />

with them <strong>in</strong> the November<br />

<strong>issue</strong>. To keep her viol<strong>in</strong> chops<br />

up, Claire jo<strong>in</strong>ed a band, Society<br />

of Strangers, and is happily<br />

explor<strong>in</strong>g the new worlds of<br />

bluegrass, folk, and punk.<br />

Ben Sota took his Zany<br />

Umbrella Circus around the<br />

world from Amsterdam to Kabul<br />

to New Orleans, br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g joy<br />

and laughter to children <strong>in</strong> all<br />

sorts of environments. He was<br />

featured <strong>in</strong> the March <strong>issue</strong> of<br />

Pittsburgh Magaz<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
