Symposium
The format for this symposium was similar to the one at Mount Royal
College (now University) in 2009. André Picard, the health policy reporter
for the Globe and Mail, spoke as a working journalist about stigma. Rob
Whitley, McGill University, spoke about his research concerning stigma in
news reports which focus on mental health and illness. People with lived
experience of mental illness also spoke to students about their mental
illness, the stigma they have experienced and how it affected them, and how
they now manage living with the mental illness (recovery).
