Winner of the 2008 Australian Young Adult
Book of the Year Award, ‘The Ghost’s Child’ is
an allegorical fable asking powerful questions
about the worth of life and the power of love.
An exploration of independence and identity,
this adaptation for stage by Sally Richardson
invites consideration of how we live our lives,
and reflects upon the nature of beauty, self,
love, and the quality of happiness.
The Ghost’s Child delves into an elderly
woman’s history, reflecting on the people from
her past and various creatures domestic, wild
and mythical. The text is poetic and full of
dense, complex imagery. The show integrates
puppetry and object theatre, scenic and
lighting design, original composition and
live music, spoken and sung text, dance and
animation.
