<strong>Northeast</strong> <strong>Iowa</strong> Farm & Antique Association, G & G<br />

Living Centers, Garnavillo Day Care and the Central<br />

Community Hospital were the recipients of this year’s<br />

CCFF awards presented at the “After Five awards<br />

program on April 10th at the Café Mississippi in<br />

Guttenberg.<br />

In addition to the foundation’s endowment fund which<br />

supports community projects, a growing number of<br />

organizations have established their own endowed funds<br />

including <strong>Clayton</strong> Ridge Dollars for Scholars, Guttenberg<br />

Municipal Hospital, EWALU, Edgewood Future Fund,<br />

Friends of Backbone Lake, Elkader Historical Society,<br />

CCFF Fund for Entrepreneurship, and the Elkader Opera<br />

House.<br />

Currently the State of <strong>Iowa</strong> awards a 20 percent tax<br />

credit for gifts to endowed funds at qualified community<br />

foundations. When coupled with the state and federal<br />

charitable deduction, a gift may cost as little as 38 cents<br />

on the dollar.<br />

May 2008 National Preservation Month. “This Place Matters" is the theme of the monthlong<br />

celebration, which is sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Due to its overwhelming popularity, the<br />

National Trust has extended the celebration to the entire month of May and declared it Preservation Month to provide an even<br />

longer opportunity to celebrate the diverse and unique heritage of our country’s cities and states and enable more Americans<br />

“The e-Business Guide” to<br />

help others look at Internet<br />

commerce in a whole new<br />

light. Trout’s guide was<br />

created for anyone who<br />

wants to start an Internet<br />

business but really has no idea where to begin. 14 attended Jason<br />

Trout’s five class program to gain the knowledge need to start an<br />

e-Business. Classes were held from March 11th through April 8th.<br />

4th Quarter<br />

CCDG offered a Quick Books Class<br />

Lacy Carrol, Teble Lindsay & Karen Kent with Gritton & Associates,<br />

Certified Public Accountants, with offices in Manchester, Monticello,<br />

Elkader and Center Point were instructors for the Quick Books<br />

classes offered this past winter. Despite weather cancellations, 44<br />

participants attended the 4 night class ranging from beginning with<br />

Quick Books through tips and treats for those with Quick books<br />

experience.
