Clayton County Tourism
Committee receives award for
Out-of-State Advertising from
Upper Mississippi Gaming
Corporation. The billboard will
be on a rotator basis from March
through June in the Madison,
Wisconsin 12/18 beltline along Highways 30, 51, and 151. This Clayton County tourism
project was made possible through a partnership with the Clayton County Supervisors, Upper
Mississippi Gaming Corporation, Elkader Development Group, City of McGregor, City of
Marquette, Strawberry Point Development Fund and the Clayton County Development
Group. Local funding for this project was matched by the Iowa Tourism Grant.

Journey Back in Time, a traveling hands-on
museum that allows students to experience
"Pioneer Living." In September the “Fellers Store”
on the Osborne Welcome Center grounds will
be transformed into a pioneer settlement with
various learning centers for students.

Northeast Iowa Farm & Antique Association, G & G
Living Centers, Garnavillo Day Care and the Central
Community Hospital were the recipients of this year’s
CCFF awards presented at the “After Five awards
program on April 10th at the Café Mississippi in
Guttenberg.
In addition to the foundation’s endowment fund which
supports community projects, a growing number of
organizations have established their own endowed funds
including Clayton Ridge Dollars for Scholars, Guttenberg
Municipal Hospital, EWALU, Edgewood Future Fund,
Friends of Backbone Lake, Elkader Historical Society,
CCFF Fund for Entrepreneurship, and the Elkader Opera
House.
Currently the State of Iowa awards a 20 percent tax
credit for gifts to endowed funds at qualified community
foundations. When coupled with the state and federal
charitable deduction, a gift may cost as little as 38 cents
on the dollar.

May 2008 National Preservation Month. “This Place Matters" is the theme of the monthlong
celebration, which is sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Due to its overwhelming popularity, the
National Trust has extended the celebration to the entire month of May and declared it Preservation Month to provide an even
longer opportunity to celebrate the diverse and unique heritage of our country’s cities and states and enable more Americans

commerce in a whole new
light. Trout’s guide was
created for anyone who
wants to start an Internet
business but really has no idea where to begin. 14 attended Jason
Trout’s five class program to gain the knowledge need to start an
e-Business. Classes were held from March 11th through April 8th.

are being accepted for project under these programs:
*Private/Public Open Space Acquisition, *County
Conservation, *City Parks and Open Spaces. For more

UMGC Fall 2008 Round
grant application due date: AUGUST 29th.
Applications must be received in the UMGC office by 5:00 p.m.
on the deadline date. Applications not received by that time will
not be considered for funding. For more information on the

CCDG offered a Quick Books Class
Lacy Carrol, Teble Lindsay & Karen Kent with Gritton & Associates,
Certified Public Accountants, with offices in Manchester, Monticello,
Elkader and Center Point were instructors for the Quick Books
classes offered this past winter. Despite weather cancellations, 44
participants attended the 4 night class ranging from beginning with
Quick Books through tips and treats for those with Quick books
experience.
