or America, first quarter <strong>19</strong>th century, titled STONEBYRES. THE<br />
SEAT of DANIEL VERE ESQR., <strong>the</strong> artist “N. Deanne” and title<br />
inscribed on eglomise mat, executed with silk threads and watercolor<br />
on a silk ground, (toning, minor foxing, small eglomise losses), sight<br />
size 14 x 18 1/2 in., in original molded giltwood frame.<br />
Note: The backboard is inscribed: “Picture worked with <strong>the</strong> needle<br />
and painted by Nancy Deane. Presented by her to her grand niece<br />
Abby W. Deane 1850-1860.”<br />
The scene reportedly depicts <strong>the</strong> oldest inhabited house in <strong>the</strong> town<br />
of Lanark, in central Scotland.<br />
