The purpose of establishing academic studies of the Central Institute for Conservation in
Belgrade:
Introducing the concept of preventive conservation as a coherent system of strategic planning
of protection of cultural heritage.
‣ Identification and analysis of the degradation of cultural heritage, as well as management
techniques, aiming to control the process of decay.
‣ Making informed and justifiable decisions in preventive conservation, as an integral part of
institutional activities and conservation projects.
‣ Initiate cooperation among professionals from different cultural heritage institutions.
