For 45 years, we’ve presented the
Chicago International Film Festival and
brought the best and brightest filmmakers
and stars to Chicago—from Bette Davis
and King Vidor in our first year to Dustin
Hoffman, Viggo Mortensen, Rachel Weisz,
Jacqueline Bisset, Sophia Loren, François
Truffaut, Jodie Foster, Steven Spielberg,
Sigourney Weaver, Faye Dunaway, and
Clint Eastwood in recent years.

Our International Summer Screenings
Program features free public film screenings
and post-screening Q&As throughout the
summer. This program raises awareness
of international cinema and engages
Access to the latest and greatest in
international cinema doesn’t end when
the last red carpet of the Chicago
International Film Festival is rolled up.
Cinema/Chicago members come from all
across the metropolitan area and from all
walks of life. They share an extraordinary
love of film and the desire to continue
their Festival experience throughout the
year. In addition to discounted rates at
the Festival, member benefits include
invitations to private members-only
screenings, advance studio previews, and
special Cinema/Chicago events.
In 2009, our members have been the first
in Chicago to see (500) Days of Summer,
Adam, Away We Go, The Cove, The
Curious Case of Benjamin Button (with
Oscar ® -nominated actress Taraji P. Henson
in attendance), The Hangover (with
actor Bradley Cooper in attendance), In
the Loop, Star Trek, Still Walking, Taking
Woodstock, and many other hotly
anticipated films from around the world.

highlighting a variety of issues, ideas, and art
that exists within different cultures, we hope
to facilitate a dialogue between them.

Reflecting Chicago’s rich cultural and
ethnic diversity, the Chicago International
Film Festival features programs that
engage a broad cross-section of the
city’s population. Black Perspectives, now
in its 13th year, celebrates the work of
filmmakers of African heritage.
BIG IDEAS fOR ThE SMAll SCREEn
For 45 years, the hugo Television Awards
have honored the important events,
beloved personalities, and inspiring ideas
that have shaped unforgettable moments
of television. The most innovative members
of the television industry are recognized
at the annual Hugo Television Awards
ceremony for their mastery of their craft and
willingness to push the envelope of television
programming and commercials alike.
InVESTInG In YOUTh
Cinema/Chicago’s year-round Education
Program offers Chicago Public School
students contact with classic and
contemporary cinema to improve media
literacy levels and expose students to
diverse cultures, viewpoints, and subject
matter through film. Each year during
the Chicago International Film Festival,
our Education Program brings thousands
of students into theaters free of charge
to see Festival films, meet directors and
stars, and participate in discussions with
filmmakers and other professionals. The
Education Program also reaches out to
educators with the Teachers Institute,
a free media literacy training program
offered to Chicago Public School teachers
to assist them in incorporating media arts
into their classroom curricula. Every spring,
CineYouth celebrates the work of young
people under the age of 20, highlighting
the creativity of the next generation of
filmmakers.
