For 45 years, we’ve presented the<br />
<strong>Chicago</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> and<br />
brought the best and brightest filmmakers<br />
and stars to <strong>Chicago</strong>—from Bette Davis<br />
and King Vidor in our first year to Dustin<br />
Hoffman, Viggo Mortensen, Rachel Weisz,<br />
Jacqueline Bisset, Sophia Loren, François<br />
Truffaut, Jodie Foster, Steven Spielberg,<br />
Sigourney Weaver, Faye Dunaway, and<br />
Clint Eastwood in recent years.<br />

Our <strong>International</strong> Summer Screenings<br />
Program features free public film screenings<br />
and post-screening Q&As throughout the<br />
summer. This program raises awareness<br />
of international cinema and engages<br />
Access to the latest and greatest in<br />
international cinema doesn’t end when<br />
the last red carpet of the <strong>Chicago</strong><br />
<strong>International</strong> <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> is rolled up.<br />
Cinema/<strong>Chicago</strong> members come from all<br />
across the metropolitan area and from all<br />
walks of life. They share an extraordinary<br />
love of film and the desire to continue<br />
their <strong>Festival</strong> experience throughout the<br />
year. In addition to discounted rates at<br />
the <strong>Festival</strong>, member benefits include<br />
invitations to private members-only<br />
screenings, advance studio previews, and<br />
special Cinema/<strong>Chicago</strong> events.<br />
In 2009, our members have been the first<br />
in <strong>Chicago</strong> to see (500) Days of Summer,<br />
Adam, Away We Go, The Cove, The<br />
Curious Case of Benjamin Button (with<br />
Oscar ® -nominated actress Taraji P. Henson<br />
in attendance), The Hangover (with<br />
actor Bradley Cooper in attendance), In<br />
the Loop, Star Trek, Still Walking, Taking<br />
Woodstock, and many other hotly<br />
anticipated films from around the world.<br />

Programming & Membership<br />
<strong>Chicago</strong>’s many ethnic communities. By<br />
highlighting a variety of issues, ideas, and art<br />
that exists within different cultures, we hope<br />
to facilitate a dialogue between them.<br />
fOCUSED On DIVERSITY<br />
Reflecting <strong>Chicago</strong>’s rich cultural and<br />
ethnic diversity, the <strong>Chicago</strong> <strong>International</strong><br />
<strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> features programs that<br />
engage a broad cross-section of the<br />
city’s population. Black Perspectives, now<br />
in its 13th year, celebrates the work of<br />
filmmakers of African heritage.<br />
BIG IDEAS fOR ThE SMAll SCREEn<br />
For 45 years, the hugo Television Awards<br />
have honored the important events,<br />
beloved personalities, and inspiring ideas<br />
that have shaped unforgettable moments<br />
of television. The most innovative members<br />
of the television industry are recognized<br />
at the annual Hugo Television Awards<br />
ceremony for their mastery of their craft and<br />
willingness to push the envelope of television<br />
programming and commercials alike.<br />
InVESTInG In YOUTh<br />
Cinema/<strong>Chicago</strong>’s year-round Education<br />
Program offers <strong>Chicago</strong> Public School<br />
students contact with classic and<br />
contemporary cinema to improve media<br />
literacy levels and expose students to<br />
diverse cultures, viewpoints, and subject<br />
matter through film. Each year during<br />
the <strong>Chicago</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Festival</strong>,<br />
our Education Program brings thousands<br />
of students into theaters free of charge<br />
to see <strong>Festival</strong> films, meet directors and<br />
stars, and participate in discussions with<br />
filmmakers and other professionals. The<br />
Education Program also reaches out to<br />
educators with the Teachers Institute,<br />
a free media literacy training program<br />
offered to <strong>Chicago</strong> Public School teachers<br />
to assist them in incorporating media arts<br />
into their classroom curricula. Every spring,<br />
CineYouth celebrates the work of young<br />
people under the age of 20, highlighting<br />
the creativity of the next generation of<br />
filmmakers.<br />
