Horsforth Leeds Trinity’s campus is situated in Horsforth, only six miles north west of Leeds city centre, which is easily accessible via bus, train or car, as are the popular student areas of Headingley, Hyde Park and Burley Park. We run a popular shuttle bus between campus and Horsforth where all your day to day needs are catered for. Spread over two main lively areas - Town Street and New Road Side - the town has an abundance of banks, supermarkets and newsagents and the usual amenities that you would expect to see in a town such as butchers, greengrocers, bakeries, florists and charity shops. If you’re looking for that little bit extra, Horsforth provides a wide range of other facilities that you wouldn’t usually find in the average town centre. There are many boutique-like shops selling distinctive gifts, clothing and shoes for women, men and children, handbags, lingerie, jewellery and home furnishings, not to mention a health store, a fancy dress shop and two confectioners. If you fancy eating out or going for a drink, there are plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants to cater for all pockets. Horsforth has much to offer; from traditional real-ale-selling inns to trendy cocktail bars and Indian cuisine to Italian pizzerias. With the added bonus of Horsforth’s excellent location, there are also plenty of opportunities to visit nearby towns and cities or to get out and explore the great outdoors. Destinations that have direct links from Horsforth train station include Leeds, Knaresborough, Harrogate, Sheffield, York and the Yorkshire Dales are easy to get to by train or bus. The city of Bradford is just seven miles south west of Horsforth and is accessible by bus, train or car which is why many of our students commute from the city. If it’s a trip to Bradford you fancy, why not visit the National Media Museum, dedicated to film, photography, TV, radio and the web, for free Alternatively take a trip to Britain’s first IMAX cinema, attend one of the many film festivals or simply sample some of the award winning Asian Cuisine. Life in Leeds Leeds is a fast-paced cosmopolitan city with a thriving economy, making it a leading centre for business outside London. Whether you are looking for work after graduating or studying while working, this hive of commercial activity provides great employment potential and fantastic opportunities for career development or work experience. It is one of the largest centres for university education in England and was recently named the most cost effective place to study in Britain (RBS Student Living Index 2007). Its diverse economy covers the full range of business sectors – from banking and law to media and retail. This, combined with its wide range of entertainment and leisure facilities, ensures that Leeds caters for every postgraduate’s needs. The city centre’s ever-expanding arts and cultural scene has just welcomed the opening of the brand-new Leeds City Museum which, in common with many more of the city’s cultural sights and venues, is free. Other museums and art galleries include the newly refurbished Leeds City Art Gallery, The Thackray Medical Museum and the Royal Armouries. When it comes to comedy, dance, film, opera and theatre the city offers a variety of options. If it’s the silver screen you’re interested in, the region has an enviable mix of commercial and independent cinemas, and the annual Leeds International Film Festival has an excellent reputation and draws film-makers from across the world. National organisations such as Opera North and the Northern Ballet Theatre are based in Leeds, while major national and international names often frequent the likes of Leeds Grand Theatre, the City Varieties and the West Yorkshire Playhouse - which has earned a reputation as the ‘National Theatre of the North’. Music lovers won’t be disappointed as the live music scene in Leeds is one of the best in the country. Venues range from intimate pubs and clubs playing pop, rock, hip-hop, jazz, reggae and urban music to the Town Hall, which hosts an International Concert series for classical music fans. Outdoor gigs range from the Live at Leeds indie music festival and the massive Leeds Festival to Opera in the Park, generally staged during the summer months. Most touring bands stop in Leeds or nearby cities and large-scale gigs should also be coming to the city on a more regular basis soon with the announcement that an arena is to be built. Shopaholics already know you can’t beat Leeds for sheer breadth of retail experience. Take in the traditional grandeur of the Victoria Quarter, check out the bustling high street and Kirkgate Market, choose from a plethora of quirky independent shops or try the upmarket designer chic of Harvey Nichols. There really is something for every taste and budget. If you like the great outdoors, Leeds has miles of open parks and countryside, with more green space than anywhere else in the country (Children’s Society 2008 survey). Easy access to the magnificent Yorkshire Dales provides plenty of opportunity for hiking, sailing, canoeing, climbing or even potholing. When it comes to traditional sports, there are countless teams on site at Leeds Trinity and, for the spectator, Leeds has a wide range of high-profile teams in cricket, football, rugby and much, much more. Leeds has a vibrant nightlife which is constantly growing. Many clubs hold regular student nights so you can dance till you drop at a discounted price any night of the week. LTU, our students’ union, also runs buses to and from campus which stop in Headingley and Horsforth so you can get home safely and cheaply.
