The Buford family takes great pleasure in welcoming you to our first Registered Angus female sale at our 

new sale facility west of Welch, Oklahoma at the former “J Bar 7 Ranch.” Under the name of “J Bar 7 

Ranch,” we have had several bull sales in the past in Joplin, Missouri with our friend and former partner 

John T.L. Jones, Jr., of Abilene, Texas. In early 2008, Mr. Jones and our family decided to end our ranching 

partnership. As a result, we bought the entire Registered Angus cow herd that Johnny started in 1993 

with the purchase of foundation females from the Sitz and Stevenson-Basin herds. This registered herd has 

been bred up over the last sixteen years by using proven AI sires with an emphasis on not using single trait 

selection. We are excited to open a new chapter in our family’s ranching history that began in 1941, when 

our maternal grandparents, Jane and John Dunkin, purchased a ranch west of Hominy, Oklahoma and 

began a commercial cow-calf operation. 

Our registered females and bulls have been managed under the same guidelines that have been essential 

for the survival of our commercial herd for almost seven decades: balanced EPDs, fleshing ability, feed 

efficiency, performance and disposition. By doing so, our cattle are fundamentally sound and should be 

equipped to work in any environment. 

On April 11, we will be selling Registered Angus females from our herd for the first time. The offering 

includes over 150 head, consisting of our very best bred and open heifers, and our very best AI sired fall 

heifer calves and their mothers. We also are selling our two best donor cows, along with several confirmed 

heifer pregnancies from our donor program. These are our best genetics produced from our registered herd 

of over 1,200 producing females. 

We are fortunate to have Mike Horrell as our manager of the Registered Angus herd. Mike has continually 

shown a superior ability to breed sound, functional cattle, and a willingness to assist other breeders. He 

will be glad to answer any questions you might have about the females offering.
