LLC-Q/LVQ Project Updates
nother year comes to a close, and what a
A year it has been! LLC-Q/LVQ is continually
striving to position itself as the voice of
English literacy in the community sector in
Quebec, and has been working diligently to
ensure that its voice is heard.
With this end in mind, LLC-Q/LVQ participated
in, or organized, the following activities during
the 2006-2007 fiscal year:
• National consultations on health literacy
and access to adult education in Quebec;
• Frontier College conference on health, nutrition
and literacy;
• International Literacy Day launch of new
campaign by the Fondation pour l’alphabétisation;
• March-around-the-block organized on ILD
by Regroupement des groupes populaires
en alphabetization québécois (RGPAQ);
• Retreat for member councils;
• Annual and student conference and annual
general meeting, where LLCQ hosted the
2006 Canada Post Literacy Award presentations;
• Literacy Action Day in Ottawa;
• International literacy seminar hosted by
MELS in Quebec City;
• Press conferences in Montreal and Ottawa
organized by the Coalition pour l’alphabétisation,
as well as monthly coalition meetings
and meetings with MPs;
• Changing Times Forum for Englishspeaking
and ethnocultural community
groups, organized by COCo;
• Best Practices in Tutor Training round table
(great opportunity to exchange with our
community literacy counterparts in Ontario);
• QELA retreat and general meeting;
• Adult Literacy Recognition Award and the
Council of the Federation Literacy Award;
• MELS working group on IALLS statistics;
• MELS/PACTE mixed and working committees;
• LLC strategic planning sessions and annual
general meeting;
• National summit on libraries and literacy,
organized by the Canadian Library Association,
and;
• MELS working group on recruitment and
sensitization.
Next year promises to be just as busy, with
three projects either under way, waiting for
approval, or about to be submitted. So, don’t
change the channel, stay tuned for the next
