The Black and Ethnic Minority Information Service Project (BEMIS)

The Black and Ethnic Minority Information Service Project (BEMIS) is funded by the Department of
Health to provide disease-specific presentations by highly regarded specialists on CD or DVD.
Translations of disease specific leaflets will enable many families from a minority ethnic background
where English is not a first language to access this information and be informed about their
condition. This unique service will enable families and communities to access information about
what a metabolic disease is, laboratory investigation leading to diagnosis, inheritance, diet and
treatment.

Climb is a charitable organisation which provides free information and support to families and
professionals. We hold information on over 700 different inherited metabolic diseases, all of which
cover symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes.

Many families are isolated through diagnosis of one of these rare conditions and many GPs and
health professionals may never have had experience of treating a metabolic disease. Climb will
help to reduce isolation and provide relevant, timely information for all families and communities.

am – 4 pm, Monday to Friday. Our Family Services team are always there to take your call and
