NATIONAL STAMP COLLECTING COMPETITION 2011<br />

The National Stamp Collecting Competition<br />

(NSCC) 2011 was held at the National Library<br />

from 2 to 4 September 2011. The annual<br />

competition was organised by <strong>Singapore</strong><br />

Philatelic Museum and supported by the<br />

Ministry of Education, <strong>Singapore</strong> <strong>Post</strong> Limited<br />

and the Association of <strong>Singapore</strong> Philatelists.<br />

The competition drew more than 750<br />

participants from 27 primary and secondary<br />

schools, and tertiary institutions. Participants<br />

selected a topic of their choice, did research<br />

and presented their findings using a variety<br />

of philatelic materials. They also gained<br />

research, organisation, language and<br />

writing skills.<br />

Entries that were awarded Gold, Silver and<br />

Bronze awards were displayed. Visitors<br />

were treated to a diverse range of themes<br />

depicted on philatelic materials and interesting<br />

storylines weaved by the participants.<br />

Topics that caught the judges fancy and were<br />

awarded a Gold award include ‘Unusual<br />

Stamps’ , ‘The Stories Handicrafts Tell’,<br />

‘The Chinese Zodiac’, ‘Flights of Fancy’, ‘Fruit<br />

Delicacies’, ‘Tree-Tastic’, ‘Royal Families’,<br />

‘Football’, ‘<strong>Singapore</strong>’s Son: Mr Lee Kuan Yew<br />

and his Influence in Nation Building’, ‘Animals<br />

in the Entertainment World’, ‘Animals In<br />

Savannahs’, ‘The Colourful Fashion Scene’<br />

and ‘The Symphony of Music’.<br />

The guest-of-honour for the Prize Presentation<br />

Ceremony was Mr Edmund Chen, the <strong>Singapore</strong><br />

<strong>Post</strong> Stamp Ambassador. Top awards were<br />

presented to Holy Innocent’s High - Secondary<br />

School Champions; Yishun Primary School –<br />

Primary School Champions, and Gregory Quek<br />

- Best Youth Exhibit.<br />

Students can attend hands-on training workshops<br />

for NSCC 2012 in January. Teachers<br />

can sign up their students for the workshop<br />
