<strong>Instrumental</strong> <strong>music</strong> <strong>lessons</strong><br />
2013-2014<br />
<strong>St</strong>. John’s <strong>International</strong> <strong>School</strong> organizes private<br />
instrumental <strong>lessons</strong> for children and adults.<br />
Lessons are available for students after school and<br />
during free periods, lunch, recess, and at flexible<br />
times for adults. Lessons are 30 minutes once a<br />
week, but longer or shorter <strong>lessons</strong> can be arranged<br />
on a pro rata basis.<br />
Our program also offers preparation for external<br />
exams such as those of the Associated Boards of<br />
The Royal <strong>School</strong>s of Music and Trinity College.<br />
<strong>St</strong>udents taking <strong>lessons</strong> are encouraged to<br />
participate in the school’s many ensembles. Mrs.<br />
Swanson will provide information on request.<br />

Private <strong>lessons</strong> are offered<br />
for the following instruments<br />
Piano (all styles), guitar (acoustic and electric),<br />
bass guitar, violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet,<br />
oboe, saxophone, drums, recorder, trumpet, tuba,<br />
trombone, and voice.<br />
The instrumental <strong>music</strong> coordinators will help you to<br />
find a qualified teacher if your instrument is not on<br />
the list.<br />
If you do not have an instrument and you<br />
need to buy, rent, or lease one it is important<br />
to contact one of the instrumental <strong>music</strong><br />
coordinators or your instrumental <strong>music</strong> teacher<br />
before beginning <strong>lessons</strong> to be sure you have an<br />
appropriate instrument. .<br />

Tuition policy<br />
1. Registration: A non-refundable fee of €20 euros<br />
per family is to be paid with the return of the<br />
application form to Reception (below). Please<br />
check the box when you enclose the fee. The fee<br />
covers administrative costs.<br />
2. Fees: Fees are to be paid in advance on the<br />
first lesson. Financial arrangements are<br />
made directly with the teachers (who are<br />
independents and not employed by SJIS).<br />
Lessons are €27 euros per private half-hour<br />
lesson, continue throughout the academic year<br />
and are to be paid in 10 week sessions (270<br />
euros). The third session will be billed to the end<br />
of the academic year ending in June. Longer or<br />
shorter <strong>lessons</strong> may be arranged pro rata. Group<br />
<strong>lessons</strong> in beginning guitar are €100 per trimester<br />
(classes meet 30 minutes per week with a<br />
minimum of 3 students).<br />
3. Absence: Regular attendance is expected.<br />
Reasonable notice of at least a day in advance<br />
must be given directly to the instrumental<br />
<strong>music</strong> teacher for any cancellations or<br />
the lesson will be charged (this includes<br />
parent conferences, teacher in-service, and<br />
early dismissal; teachers will try to rearrange<br />
schedules on these occasions if necessary.<br />
Please contact the teacher if a student goes home<br />
sick. Although occasional make up <strong>lessons</strong><br />
may be arranged the teacher is not obliged to<br />
make up more than one lesson per trimester.<br />
Please ask the instrumental <strong>music</strong> teacher for<br />
contact information on the first lesson. Group and<br />
shared <strong>lessons</strong> cannot be made up.<br />
4. <strong>St</strong>arting and stopping: In fairness to the teacher<br />
and students on waiting lists, if you intend to<br />
stop <strong>lessons</strong> written notice must be given<br />
to the coordinator four calendar weeks in<br />
advance of the new session or you will be<br />
charged for the next session.<br />
Although you may apply at any time of the year,<br />
places fill up quickly and priority will be given<br />
to forms received by Friday, September 7. If<br />
teachers are not available, the student will be put on<br />
a waiting list. New forms must be submitted each<br />
year.<br />

Most <strong>lessons</strong> take place after school (from 15:45). Please mark a first and second preference of days if<br />
requesting an after-school time. Some teachers come in only one or two days a week, so your options may<br />
be limited. Please check the list under “<strong>Instrumental</strong> <strong>music</strong> teachers” (overleaf) to know which day(s) the<br />
instrument you wish to study is available. Please contact one of the coordinators if the instrument you want<br />
is not listed.<br />
