Instrumental music lessons
2013-2014
St. John’s International School organizes private
instrumental lessons for children and adults.
Lessons are available for students after school and
during free periods, lunch, recess, and at flexible
times for adults. Lessons are 30 minutes once a
week, but longer or shorter lessons can be arranged
on a pro rata basis.
Our program also offers preparation for external
exams such as those of the Associated Boards of
The Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College.
Students taking lessons are encouraged to
participate in the school’s many ensembles. Mrs.
Swanson will provide information on request.

lessons for instruments not listed below.

Private lessons are offered
for the following instruments
Piano (all styles), guitar (acoustic and electric),
bass guitar, violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet,
oboe, saxophone, drums, recorder, trumpet, tuba,
trombone, and voice.
The instrumental music coordinators will help you to
find a qualified teacher if your instrument is not on
the list.
If you do not have an instrument and you
need to buy, rent, or lease one it is important
to contact one of the instrumental music
coordinators or your instrumental music teacher
before beginning lessons to be sure you have an
appropriate instrument. .

Tuition policy
1. Registration: A non-refundable fee of €20 euros
per family is to be paid with the return of the
application form to Reception (below). Please
check the box when you enclose the fee. The fee
covers administrative costs.
2. Fees: Fees are to be paid in advance on the
first lesson. Financial arrangements are
made directly with the teachers (who are
independents and not employed by SJIS).
Lessons are €27 euros per private half-hour
lesson, continue throughout the academic year
and are to be paid in 10 week sessions (270
euros). The third session will be billed to the end
of the academic year ending in June. Longer or
shorter lessons may be arranged pro rata. Group
lessons in beginning guitar are €100 per trimester
(classes meet 30 minutes per week with a
minimum of 3 students).
3. Absence: Regular attendance is expected.
Reasonable notice of at least a day in advance
must be given directly to the instrumental
music teacher for any cancellations or
the lesson will be charged (this includes
parent conferences, teacher in-service, and
early dismissal; teachers will try to rearrange
schedules on these occasions if necessary.
Please contact the teacher if a student goes home
sick. Although occasional make up lessons
may be arranged the teacher is not obliged to
make up more than one lesson per trimester.
Please ask the instrumental music teacher for
contact information on the first lesson. Group and
shared lessons cannot be made up.
4. Starting and stopping: In fairness to the teacher
and students on waiting lists, if you intend to
stop lessons written notice must be given
to the coordinator four calendar weeks in
advance of the new session or you will be
charged for the next session.
Although you may apply at any time of the year,
places fill up quickly and priority will be given
to forms received by Friday, September 7. If
teachers are not available, the student will be put on
a waiting list. New forms must be submitted each
year.

Most lessons take place after school (from 15:45). Please mark a first and second preference of days if
requesting an after-school time. Some teachers come in only one or two days a week, so your options may
be limited. Please check the list under “Instrumental music teachers” (overleaf) to know which day(s) the
instrument you wish to study is available. Please contact one of the coordinators if the instrument you want
is not listed.
