Every
day
we’re
making changes
in
women’s
lives.
“Gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder”
– G.K. Chesterton
Who we are.
are a vibrant organization that empowers women in transition
We by providing relevant programs, services and resources. We
help women build confidence and skills so they can participate more
fully in our community. In 2011-2012, we assisted over 1,500 women
to build better futures for themselves and their families.
Our strength lies in our rootedness in community and in building the
collaborative partnerships that create more opportunities for women
in transition. What we are able to achieve as an organization is directly
related to our committed and talented volunteers and staff members,
donors and community partners and we continue to develop
new ways to deepen the impact of our services.
What we do.
year, we have focused on deepening our relationships with
This participants, volunteers, and our immense network of community
supporters. Two new initiatives, our Global Café and our Teen pilot
program have been met with immediate and resounding support;
we have expanded both our Employment and Life Skills and our
Walk-In Closet services by broadening our referral networks; and have
remained incredibly grateful for the host of community partners who
generously support our work through their contributions of time,
advocacy, materials and funds. We remain clear in our belief that
creating a solid network of partnerships and fostering an internal
climate of contribution where women across the organization receive
and give support to each other is the key to creating the most lasting
impact for all of our participants. Our heartfelt thanks is offered to our
growing Making Changes family of supporters.

Message from the Board Chair
Can you
Wow! believe it’s
been a year already! What
success and great fun we
have had this year. Not
only was it an exciting and
eventful year for the Walk-
In Closet; we celebrated 3o
years of assisting immigrant
women in establishing
more meaningful lives in
a new society through our
Employment and Life Skills
program.
It was said earlier this
year by Minister Ambrose
that, “Our Government is
committed to sustaining
Canada’s position as one of
the world’s top-performing
economies. Women are
important to that success
story”. Making Changes
truly believes in enabling
this success story. By
supporting women to
create better futures for
themselves we will create
stronger communities and
in turn a stronger Canada.
Through the direction of our
dedicated and passionate
staff- Lili, Elaine, Lillian,
Roxanne, Roxie and our
newest addition Amanda,
Making Changes was able
to support and make a
difference in the lives of
over 1500 women this past
year. Amazing! We could
not have made it through
this year successfully if it
were not for the over 160
volunteers that dedicated
their time and passion.
The women of Making
Changes (staff, volunteers,
participants) are
continuously learning
from one another, sharing
experiences and building
networks. Whether
working one-on-one
with a Walk-In Closet
participant, conducting
a mock interview with an
Employment and Life Skills
participant, reading stories
in the Making Changes
newsletter, hearing a fellow
volunteer or participant’s
story, or participating in a
discussion group (Global
Café), for example, our
Making Changes family
continues to increase their
awareness of newcomers’
needs and contributions,
and work to support them
in settling in their new
communities.
We must not forget the
funders that have stood
behind us and generously
supported us this past
year. Through ongoing
and new partnerships we
look forward to a successful
2013.
“Often we set out to make
a difference in the lives of
others only to discover we
have made a difference in
our own.”
--Ellie Braun-Haley
We thank you all and hope
that you continue to join
us on our journey forward
to creating better futures
for the women of our
community.
Extraordinary Events, Incredible
Community Supporters
The Empowering Women with
Energy event brought together 45
oil companies and their supporters
to raise funds and create
connections. Our sincere thanks
go to Debora Rice-Salomons
and the hundreds of corporate
volunteers and supporters who
worked so hard to orchestrate a
wonderful evening
Ecole Holt Couture’s Eleganza was the second annual
fundraising event for Making Changes. The students
showcased their brilliant creations, and we enjoyed an
afternoon of music, art, and a celebration of made in
Calgary ‘couture’. What an amazing and talented
group of women !

Connecting to
Create Changes
Our volunteers love to model the
latest fashions, and they look
fabulous doing it!
Our volunteers and staff
are up for any challenge
to support our cause.
For the second year now
they have laced up their
sneakers to run in the
Scotiabank Charity Run.
Whether they were
walking or running, the
spirit of our Association
was strong among them.
