Richard Campanella, a geographer with the Tulane School of Architecture, is the author of six critically acclaimed books
on the geography of New Orleans. His research, which integrates mapping and spatial analyses with the social sciences
and humanities, has been praised in the Journal of Southern History, Urban History, Places, Louisiana History, Journal of
the Abraham Lincoln Association, and Bloomsbury Review; cited regularly in the New Orleans Times-Picayune and New
York Times; and featured on NPR, CBS Evening News, PBS NewsHour, CNN, and BBC. The only two-time winner of the
Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities Book of the Year Award, Campanella has also received the Williams Prize for
Louisiana History, the Mortar Board Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Newcomb College Institute of Tulane
University, and the Monroe Fellowship from Tulane’s New Orleans Center for the Gulf South. He also writes monthly
columns for the Times-Picayune, Preservation in Print Magazine, and the quarterly Louisiana Cultural Vistas.
