FOR ALMOST 100 YEARS, Camp Foss for girls and Camp Mi-Te-Na for boys have offered 8 to
15 year olds a diverse mix of exciting and challenging overnight summer camping programs. Camps
Mi-Te-Na and Foss are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). Developed
exclusively for the camp industry, this nationally recognized program focuses on program quality and
health and safety issues, and requires us to review every facet of our operations. They ask more than
300 questions and inspect the entire facility — just as you would. They cover staff training, program and
facility safety, food services, health care and more. Mi-Te-Na and Foss are proud to voluntarily submit to
this independent appraisal, and have been accredited with superior marks. Throughout the entire camping
season, we maintain the highest ACA and state of New Hampshire health and safety standards.

CAMP QUALITY PROMISE
We stand behind the quality of our overnight camp programs
and welcome feedback from campers and parents at any time.
• One of the highest staff retention rates in the state
• Our staff receive extensive, thorough training
• The YMCA has a distinguished history in camping
• A warm and caring environment makes your child feel at home
• Our camps have been serving youth for almost 100 years!
I was thoroughly impressed with every aspect of my daughter’s camp.
The counselors were professional and patient. I watched the textbook
transformation when a group finally comes together and figures it
out. I learned a lot that day, about myself, about the kids, and about
parenting. It was really awesome.
I loved the campfire skits and stories, the full group games, the dining
experience, and on and on. Everything you do there is what we value in
our family: getting kids outside, learning to rely on themselves and each
other, and being respectful human beings.
I would like to thank the Camp Mi-Te-Na staff for the best summer my
son has had in a long time. He really enjoyed his 6 weeks at camp, and
we’ve seen such a great transformation in him since his experience at
Camp Mi-Te-Na.
M. Andre, Montreal, Quebec
My daughter had such a great time at Camp Foss that she begged me
to go back. When we pulled in the second year, her counselors from the
year before greeted her with a big hug. She was so happy and felt right
at home. She loved the challenge and variety of the physical activities
each day and even enjoyed the food. She also made great friends from
all over New England and still keeps in touch with them. The cost was
so reasonable she will go back for several years!
Paula, Dover, NH
My son had a wonderful experience at camp. I was so impressed with
Camp Mi-Te-Na that I can’t stop raving about it. The staff greeted us
with warm smiles when we dropped him off and I received a postcard
from his counselors to let me know how he was doing. I enjoyed logging
onto the camp website to see what they were doing each day.
LET THE Y TURN YOUR CHILD INTO A LEADER
WHAT PARENTS SHOULD KNOW
Who are the Directors
Vice President of Camping Services Tom Archer celebrates 45 years in
resident camping and began attending Camp Mi-Te-Na as a young child. Rick
Ross has 44 years experience as a camper, counselor, and director—all at
Camp Mi-Te-Na, where he currently serves as director. Molly Reeve is the
director at Camp Foss and this summer will be her 18th year as a camper,
counselor, and director—all at Camp Foss.
How do you select your staff
We pride ourselves on the talents of our dynamic staff who make our campers
feel special and help them make friends. Many of our staff members are former
campers themselves and have spent several years growing up through our
Counselor-In-Training program. Other staff are selected for their expertise
and desire to work with children in the camping environment. We also promote
diversity by selecting some staff from international placement agencies that
draw from highly qualified applicants from all over the world. We hire them
for their maturity, personal warmth, and leadership skills to give your child
an outstanding summer camp experience. Reference and criminal background
checks are performed on all staff.
What kind of training does the staff have
All camp staff undergo intensive training in topics such as emergency
procedures, CPR, first aid, homesickness, team building, age-specific behaviors,
character development, bullying, conflict resolution, child abuse awareness, and
activity planning.
Do you offer financial assistance
Yes! Thanks to generous donations from supporters of Y families, camp alumni
and friends, funds are available for families who may not be able to afford a
camping experience for their child. Limited funds are applied toward camp fees
(usually not more than 40 percent). For more information, call Jamie Kimball at
603.232.8642.
Can my child call or e-mail home
Parents are welcome to contact the camp office at any time with questions
or concerns. In general, we strive to promote independence and group unity
in campers by discouraging telephone contact during camp session. The camp
staff will contact the parent/guardian if a camper is having trouble adjusting to
camp life or if there are health concerns.
The Camp Foss CIT program allowed me to explore the concept
of leadership. I taught my first riding lesson, worked on
service projects, and planned an evening program. The daily
journal writing promoted self reflection and the experience
instilled in me the drive to evolve and the confidence to
pursue the career of my dreams.
Liz Dozier, Boise, ID
I cannot express what a gift Camp Mi-Te-Na turned out
to be for my son. He thrived. He loved every minute of the
experience. I truly believe that it was a life changing event
for him. He is a 13 year old boy trying to decide who he
wants to be and Camp helped him put some of his choices in
perspective. I sent you a boy and got back an exhausted (in a
wonderful way) young man I am very proud of.
LEADERS-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM (LIT)
This program is designed for our oldest campers, and helps teach them what
it takes to be a good role model for other campers. This two-week program
serves as both a great stepping stone to the CIT Program and as a great
leadership experience for one of their final sessions as a camper.
COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM (CIT)
16 YEARS (Must be 16 prior to June 2012)
This program includes workshop training in areas of personal development,
decision-making techniques, group work skills and program leadership. We
invite all who meet the age qualification to apply with the understanding
that this is a competitive process for a limited number of positions.
The CIT experience was life changing. It really opened my eyes and
forced me to see the big picture. It also helped me understand the
different things others go through and how to be there to help them.
I have made great friends and as a group we overcame many challenges.
I am now a more confident person.
