APS MEMBER WON MAJOR AWARDS IN AEROPEX '77<br />

APS Member lIario Que won the top major<br />
,wards at the rcoehtly concluded Aeropex '77.<br />
Spon""ed by the <strong>International</strong> Phil. PhilateHc<br />
Society, the exhibition which limited its entries<br />
to airmail and aerophilatelic materials was opened<br />
on October 24, <strong>1977</strong> at the Thomas JeffcISon<br />
Cultural Center in Metro Manila.. with some 250<br />
Crunes of rare collections. Que, who competed. on<br />
both the <strong>Philippine</strong>s and Pan Am aerophilatelic<br />
categories won for the two exhibits most of the<br />
top awards.<br />
His entry under Pan Am category - entitled<br />
"Pan Am's <strong>Philippine</strong> Connection" consisted of ten<br />
frames depicting the history of Pan Am's flight<br />
to and from the <strong>Philippine</strong>s as philatelically recorded<br />
in flown covers. starting from the First<br />
TransPacific Flight in 1935 from San Francisco<br />
to Manila, to the 1975 Anniversary of the said<br />
flight in which a set of stamps was issued by the<br />
<strong>Philippine</strong> Bureau of Posts, as wen as covers were<br />
authoriz.ed to be flown for the occasion. The said<br />
coDection won for Que the Best of Show Award <br />
the American Airmail Society Gold Medal plus<br />
the 4 ft. 4" Juan T. Trippe Trophy donated by<br />
Pan American Airways. The trophy was named<br />
after the founder of Pan Am and Otainnan ofthe<br />
Board for over faurty years. It also won fOI Que<br />
the APS Bronze Medal for the Best Exhibit of a<br />
member of the American Philatelic Society. and<br />
the Gold APS Olapter Medal for the Best Exhibit<br />
of an IPPS member.<br />
The <strong>Philippine</strong> entry of Que - entitled "Philip·<br />
pine Airmail Stamps 1926 to <strong>1977</strong> - A Complete<br />
Collection" - is indeed complete from the rare and<br />
elusive Madrid-Manila stamps of 1926 to the recently<br />
issued Espamer
