<strong>SAT</strong> School-Based Preparation<br />
This one-day workshop provides teachers with activities and materials to design a school-based <strong>SAT</strong> preparation<br />
program. Participants will learn:<br />
• About the <strong>SAT</strong> format and question types on the mathematics, critical reading and writing sections.<br />
• How to plan and conduct their preparation sessions according to student and class needs.<br />
• How to effectively bring print and online <strong>SAT</strong> Readiness Program resources into the classroom.<br />
<strong>SAT</strong> Skills Insight <br />
Educators can use Skills Insight to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses at each <strong>SAT</strong> score band and develop<br />
strategies for improvement.<br />
This half-day workshop will help teachers:<br />
• Articulate the skills tested on the <strong>SAT</strong>.<br />
• Incorporate <strong>SAT</strong> Skills Insight into the classroom.<br />
• Leverage <strong>SAT</strong> Skills Insight to identify and improve student skill sets.<br />
Animating Student Writing<br />
This one-day workshop gives English teachers models, lesson plans and strategies that will help students strengthen<br />
their argumentative writing skills. Teachers learn:<br />
• Strategies to raise the quality of student writing.<br />
• How to assess argumentative writing using the <strong>SAT</strong> Scoring Guide.<br />
• How to put in place a long-term plan to improve student writing.<br />
Writing Preparation for ESL/ELL Students<br />
This one-day workshop helps teachers prepare students who have recently exited ESL/ELL classes for the writing<br />
section of the <strong>SAT</strong> by using models and hands-on exercises. Teachers will learn:<br />
• Ways to help culturally and linguistically diverse populations approach the <strong>SAT</strong> writing section.<br />
• Strategies to motivate, empower and encourage students to face the <strong>SAT</strong> writing section with confidence.<br />
• How to reflect on their own teaching practices through activities and group discussions.<br />
Holistic Scoring Workshop<br />
This one-day workshop provides teachers with practice using holistic scoring, which judges a piece of writing by the<br />
overall impression it creates. Teachers learn:<br />
• How to use holistic scoring to assess writing.<br />
• Sound strategies to assist student writers.<br />
• About the role of effective writing prompts in student success and valid assessment.<br />
