Measurement Solutions
As the leader in non-contact gauging we know that you are looking for solutions, not just sensors. That’s
why for over 30 years we been providing customers like you with the industry’s best applications support.
Our staff of measurement experts will help guide you to the right standard product solution or create a
solution customized to meet your specific measurement needs.
Diameter
Taper
Ovality
Outside Diameter of the lobe on a camshaft is
determined by the shadow created when the shaft
obscures the laser beam as it scans across the
measurement area. The camshaft is mounted on a
linear slide so that outside diameters can be
determined for each cam.
TIR
The taper angle of a crankshaft bearing is
determined by traversing the part on a linear
slide with an encoder. The OD is measured at two
locations and Taper is determined by calculating the
change in diameter divided by the change in position
of the slide.
Location
Rubber print roller manually rotated to
measure maximum and minimum diameter.
Ovality is displayed as Max OD - Min OD.
Length
A cutting-tool blank rotated on a v-block while
measuring the gap between the blank and a
reference edge. TIR is measured as the total
change in the size of the gap.
Location of a keyway on a crankshaft is determined
by traversing the part on a linear slide with an
encoder. As the shaft is traversed, the edge of the
keyway is located using laser displacement, and the
encoder is read to establish its location.
The length of a journal is measured by traversing the
crankshaft on a linear slide with a linear encoder. As
the shaft is traversed, the edges of the journal are
located using laser displacement, and the encoder
values are captured. The length is the difference
between the two encoder readings.
