2013 Foursquare Cabinet Foursquare Missions International 40 A Global Church with a Global Mission The Foursquare Church in Two Structures Since the days of the Apostles in the Early Church, the Holy Spirit has moved through the structured established church, but has also expanded the gospel across cultures, barriers, and borders through mission structures. Acts 15 illustrates the relationship between these two vital structures. The Foursquare Church’s expansion has similarly occurred as these two structures work in tandem. Until recently, much of the governance, structure, and mission has been based in the U.S.A. Now the Foursquare Church is a global church that requires a global structure, and Foursquare believers worldwide share the calling and opportunity to expand this gospel even further, through a global mission structure. The Global Foursquare Church A Global Council comprised of regional and national church leaders along with anointed global elders take on the mantel that is being passed from the U.S. Foursquare Church and Foursquare Missions regarding: • Global leadership • Governance in serving individual nations and global mission • Distinctives of doctrine, ministry, and identity • Order regarding the global church, relating, and working together Similarly to the governing “council” of Acts 15, this Global Council is the highest body of governance and leadership in the Global Foursquare Church. Just as a national church recognizes the role of the local church, the global church recognizes the role and degree of sovereignty that each national church movement retains. Foursquare Missions Global As patterned in Acts 15, a Global Mission structure functions under the authority of the Global Foursquare Church and the order and distinctives as set by the Global Council and national churches if and where they exist. Foursquare Missions Global provides a structure for believers from any nation to take the gospel or serve on mission in any other nation. While each Foursquare nation has its own church structure and mission structure, Foursquare Missions Global, provides a much needed overarching structure for global mission and expansion: • To coordinate multi-‐national global missionary sending/receiving • To train workers from various nations as they go to other peoples • To assist each nation in the development of the Two Structures: strong national churches, and vibrant cross-‐cultural mission. • To serve the Global Foursquare Church as a cultural broker and specialist in multi-lingual, multi-‐national, and cross-‐cultural ministry. The development of both these structures is already well underway. This document serves to formalize this trajectory as the Foursquare Church and Foursquare Missions step into its future as a Global Church with a Global Mission.
