• In Windows, JavaScript is implemented as a COM DLL that can be hosted by various<br />

applications:<br />

• Windows Script Host (wsh)<br />

• Internet Explorer<br />

• Before version 9, IE used the same JavaScript engine as WSH - Jscript.dll<br />

• In IE9 a different DLL has been shipped – Jscript9.dll, designed specifically for the browser<br />

• To make it better backward compatible, Jscript9 engine can emulate IE8 and IE7 doc modes, by<br />

keeping the same behavior as legacy engine<br />

• emulating the legacy engine doesn’t actually mean loading the legacy engine!<br />
