rpmi further strengthens investment team
Pensions administration and investment firm rpmi has moved to further
strengthen its investment team by announcing two high-profile senior
appointments. Manraj Ahluwalia comes on board in mid-September as Head
of Investment Strategy and Leo George, an experienced investment
consultant, joined in August as Investment Manager – Strategy.
Manraj will take responsibility for investment strategy for the railways pension
schemes and will work alongside Keith Shepherd, Head of Investment
Management and Joyce Martindale, Head of Investment Operations. Manraj
has extensive experience in the fund management industry through his work
at UBS (formerly PDFM) and at Dye Asset Management. Manraj joins rpmi
from the Pension Protection Fund.
Leo, who brings experience gained at Buck Consultants and Mercer, will work
with Manraj on investment strategy and structuring ideas. We are particularly
keen to leverage his skills to review investment strategy for individual sections
of the Railways Pension Scheme. In liability space, these are like one
hundred pension schemes, with assets pooled to ensure economies of scale.
He will work closely with Polly Watts, Head of Investment Consulting, on this.
Both Manraj and Leo are Fellows of the Institute Of Actuaries.
These appointments follow the arrivals of Investment Managers Steve
Artingstall, who joined in June from Hewitt Associates to research equities
and Helena Nicholls, who is covering bond mandates. For Helena, it is a
second spell at rpmi, where she also worked from 1998 to 2004. Earlier this
year, we also welcomed back Robert Edgar, another former colleague, to
research private equity alongside Richard Moon. Keith Shepherd, Head of
Investment Management, has overall responsibility for manager research at
rpmi and its investment subsidiary, Railpen Investments.

Executive Chairman of rpmi Chris Hitchen said:
“I am delighted to welcome all our new recruits to rpmi. Their appointments
demonstrate our desire to strengthen the rpmi team and will help us to keep
producing good risk-adjusted returns for our investment client, the Railways
Pension Trustee Company. They all have extensive experience to add to the
talent we already have at rpmi.”
All of the new appointments will be based in rpmi’s Broad Street office in
London.
