The Undergraduate Program had yet
another year of growth. With more
schools represented in the competition
than ever before and the
launching of another new region,
the incoming class of Jefferson Scholars emerged from
the most competitive year in the Foundation’s history.
They will join an already outstanding group of individuals,
whose accomplishments in the 2010-11 academic
year included one Rhodes Scholarship and one Truman
Scholarship, amongst many others. A comprehensive
list of each Scholars’ achievements may be found online
at www.jeffersonscholars.org. The program continues
to thrive in its efforts to attract the top leaders, scholars,
and citizens from around the world to the University
of Virginia.
HIGHLIGHTS
» Over 3500 secondary schools in 57 regions were invited
to participate in our competition this year, including our
newest region in Colorado
» Approximately 1300 nominees competed regionally to
result in 102 finalists for the Jefferson Scholars Selection
Weekend in March
» More than 700 alumni, faculty, and friends of the University
served on selection committees
» 27 new Scholars will join us as members of the Class of 2015
» 110 Scholars will be in residence in the 2011-12 academic year
» Each Scholar will receive a stipend to cover the entire
cost of attendance for the year: $24,104 (Virginians);
$49,098 (Non-Virginians)
» In addition to covering tuition and room and board, this
stipend includes additional funds for personal expenses,
books, fees, etc.
