S&S base gaskets are made of the Pro-Formance Micropore material. Tests have shown that these gaskets seal better, and resist failure due to extrusion or blow out, better than any other type of gasket we have offered. Stock bore Harley-Davidson® Twin Cam 88® engines and early S&S 4" bore kits for these engines use o-rings to seal the cylinder base. NOTE: Big Twin and Harley-Davidson® Sportster® models with Evolution® engines have Oil Return Passage O-ring 1999-Up Big Twin ...................................50-8008 base gaskets with the same bolt patterns. S&S gaskets #93-1038 and #93-1039 recommended for Sportster models have slightly different shapes to allow installation and removal of 1986-’90 tappet guides with cylinders in place.
