<strong>ZTE</strong> to Supply 5 mln Mobile<br />

Phones to Vodafone<br />

<strong>ZTE</strong> is in talk with the world’s<br />

largest mobile service operator<br />

Vodafone that may allow <strong>ZTE</strong><br />

to provide 5 million low-cost mobile<br />

phones to the UK-based telecoms giant.<br />

The mobile phones will apply for<br />

GSM (Global System for Mobile<br />

Communication) standards and are<br />

expected to be sold in India, <strong>ZTE</strong>’s<br />

second largest market after the Chinese<br />

mainland, said Liang Min, who is in<br />

charge <strong>of</strong> the company’s overseas market.<br />

It is the latest move for <strong>ZTE</strong> to<br />

expand its portfolio in the global market.<br />

<strong>ZTE</strong> has set up 13 regional distribution<br />

networks. It also won the cooperation<br />

with more than 500 operators in<br />

over 120 countries. Its overseas sales<br />

revenue has accounted for 52.3% <strong>of</strong> the<br />

company’s total by the end <strong>of</strong> June 30<br />

<strong>ZTE</strong> Selects Trolltech’s Qtopia Phone Edition for U980<br />

Smartphone Platform<br />

Trolltech, one <strong>of</strong> Norway’s most<br />

successful s<strong>of</strong>tware companies,<br />

announced that Qtopia(R) Phone<br />

Edition, the company’s application<br />

platform and user interface for Linuxbased<br />

mobile phones, has been selected<br />

by Chinese mobile phone manufacturer<br />

<strong>ZTE</strong> as the Linux-based application<br />

framework for <strong>ZTE</strong> U980. The U980 is<br />

<strong>ZTE</strong>’s mobile phone platform created<br />

for China’s national <strong>3G</strong> standard TD-<br />

SCDMA. Smartphones based on this<br />

platform will be supplied through China<br />

Mobile and sold into the market.<br />

<strong>ZTE</strong> is the biggest infrastructure<br />

supplier in China’s TD-SCDMA <strong>3G</strong><br />

market. To facilitate <strong>3G</strong> smartphone<br />

development, <strong>ZTE</strong> created the U980<br />

platform to be one <strong>of</strong> the smartphone<br />

solutions used to create <strong>3G</strong> phones. <strong>ZTE</strong><br />

has long experience with Qtopia Phone<br />

U980<br />

Edition and Linux, having already<br />

released two Qtopia smartphones (the e3<br />

and e700) in the Chinese market.<br />

“Qtopia <strong>of</strong>fers the advantage <strong>of</strong> a<br />

comprehensive development platform<br />

while being very flexible,” said Luo<br />

Division <strong>of</strong> <strong>ZTE</strong>. “We hope to leverage<br />

both advantages when building our<br />

internal TD-SCDMA mobile phone<br />
