Meridian Rotary Shaft Seal Types 0198/0200/0204/0209 Description Meridian Rotary Shaft Seals Type 0198 are rotary shaft seals of traditional design with a fabric/elastomer outer diameter. Type 0198 is delivered with a rectangular profile back. Type 0200 is delivered with a circumferential groove plus radial ports to enable two such seals to be fitted back to back, thereby creating a cavity for holding additional grease lubrication. Type 0204 is manufactured with a special material making it self-retaining within the seal housing, removing the need for a retaining plate. Split Seals Seal types 0198 and 0200 can be supplied in split form to ease installation on existing machinery. Full fitting instructions together with a suitable adhesive are supplied with the seals. Low Friction Surface Treatment All types of the above Meridian Rotary Shaft Seals are available with a special PTFE based surface treatment (type 0208). This treatment reduces heat generated by seal lip friction and helps to extend seal life. Application Typical applications for type 0198 rotary shaft seals are roll neck bearing seals, stern tube seals for marine applications, crushing plant, large gearboxes, tunnelling machines and most large diameter journal sealing applications. Normally the standard seal is only for sealing differential pressures of up to 0.1 bar. Rotary Shaft Seals at High Speeds/ High Pressure For high pressures, and dependent upon surface speeds, the type 0209 is recommended. This seal has the advantage of a special pressure ring and low friction lip construction. It must always be fitted to a housing with an end plate to accurately locate and clamp the seal.
