natural Lighting / Windows
Throughout this 65,000 square-foot facility, 92% of occupied
spaces have daylight and exterior views. This greatly reduces
energy costs and lessens the environmental impact of the facility.
The operations Centre design demonstrates an energy reduction
of 44% compared with a similar facility under the model national
energy Code for Buildings (mneCB).
Solar Hot Water Heating
renewable energy from the sun is generated from solar panels
located on the roof of the building which are used to heat all
domestic hot water.
water Conservation
water Conservation
The operations Centre design incorporates a 40% reduction in
domestic water usage through the installation of efficient fixtures
and other water saving measures. This represents a savings of 1.5
million litres of water annually.
rainwater Collection
rainwater is collected and housed in a large cistern which is later
used for irrigation.
Low flow Fixtures
water usage will be minimized through the use of low flow
plumbing fixtures and dual flush water closets.
Green roof
as a focal point of the building, the green roof is one of
the major environmental highlights. also known as a ‘living
roof’, the green roof serves several purposes including
absorbing rainwater, providing insulation and helping to
lower temperatures.
The new operations Centre will save 411 tonnes of Co2
from entering the environment. This is the equivalent of
removing 79 cars from newmarket’s roads each year.
Geothermal Heating / Cooling
There are 16 wells on the property
to a depth of 400 feet.
a portion of this facility is buried below a vegetated roof
system to provide an energy efficient thermal envelope.
Both geothermal heating and cooling are used to lessen
the energy load.
wash Bays
The facility includes both indoor and outdoor wash bays that use
reclaimed water for washing Town vehicles.
The indoor bays have a mezzanine to allow vehicles to be
washed from the top.
The outdoor bay is for cleaning grass cutting equipment which
includes a grass clippings collection system that prevents the
clippings from flowing into Bogart Creek.
Greenhouse
The greenhouse includes a complete ventilation, irrigation
and shading system.
The nursery section allows for plants to be started early and
utilizes a smaller portion of the greenhouse in the off season
making it more efficient.
Permeable pavement allows for a better drainage system.
