College pals head fast-growing travel PR firm<br />

Jamie Lynn Sigler and Sarah Evans met at East Carolina<br />

University, Greenville, North Carolina, in 1997. In the years<br />

since they became not only lifelong friends but successful<br />

business partners, now leading a fast-growing travel and<br />

hospitality PR Firm.<br />

matched or topped by only 15<br />

other firms among the 100 largest in<br />

O’Dwyer’s rankings of PR firms. Since<br />

2011 JPR has grown nearly 100%, and<br />

has received numerous accolades.<br />

Additionally, the agency is listed on Inc.<br />

Magazine’s Inc. 5000 List, ranking #12<br />

in the country for fastest growing hospitality<br />

companies. In the digital space,<br />

JPR is listed #5 on UWire’s list of the<br />

Top 25 PR Firms on Social Media.<br />

Luxury lifestyle and hospitality brands<br />

brought revenues of $2,432,570 in 2013,<br />

giving JPR the No. 9 spot on O’Dwyer’s<br />

travel/hospitality ranking. Restaurant<br />

and food clients are also an important<br />

part of the business, generating $875,435<br />

in fees in 2013. Clients in that realm<br />

include Suja Juice, Tessemae’s and<br />

Block 16 Hospitality.<br />

Barokas PR aids Atari’s<br />

latest comback<br />

Video game pioneer Atari has engaged Seattle’s<br />

Barokas PR as it plots its latest comeback attempt,<br />

a bid to leverage its iconic history in the online<br />

era.<br />

The “Pong” pioneer spent 2013 in Chapter 11<br />

bankruptcy protection but said June 18 that it has<br />

a new corporate strategy to produce online video<br />

games, apps, casinos, and video content. Licensing<br />

is also expected play a key role as its portfolio of<br />

more than 200 classic games, including<br />

“Asteroids” and “Centipide,” will be rented out to<br />

adorn everything from slot machines to t-shirts.<br />

Sixteen-year-old Barokas PR is led by CEO<br />

Howie Barokas, a veteran of Imagio, the storied<br />

Seattle tech advertising and PR firm that was sold<br />

to JWT in 2000.<br />

Paris-based Atari, which also has offices in<br />

New York, was founded in 1972.<br />

Sigler and Evans moved to San Diego<br />

after graduation from ECU in 2001,<br />

working in PR and also waitressing in<br />

order to meet expenses. Sigler launched<br />

JPR in San Diego in 2005, and they partnered<br />

in early 2009. Today they have<br />

robust offices in New York City and<br />

California, with a presence in Arizona.<br />

They are on track to bill over $5 million<br />

in <strong>2014</strong>.<br />
