Two Faculty Inducted as Fellows in<br />
the American Academy <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong><br />
Rozzano C. Locsin and John Lowe have been selected as Fellows in the<br />
American Academy <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong>. Locsin was inducted in 2006 and Lowe in 2007.<br />
Locsin is a pr<strong>of</strong>essor who recently<br />
received a grant as a Fulbright senior<br />
specialist for his work in public/<br />
global health at Naresuan University<br />
in Thailand. He is noted for his<br />
global work on international nursing<br />
education, public and global health,<br />
and international development.<br />
In addition, he serves as a visiting<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essor and consultant for several<br />
universities worldwide. As a Fulbright<br />
Scholar to Uganda in 2000, Locsin<br />
facilitated the development <strong>of</strong> the<br />
baccalaureate and master’s curricula<br />
at Mbarara University <strong>of</strong> Science and<br />
Technology. In 2004, he received the<br />
Fulbright Alumni Initiative Award for<br />
the community-based university nursing<br />
program. He has been a Fulbright senior<br />
specialist since 2005.<br />
Lowe is an associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor and<br />
one <strong>of</strong> only 13 doctoral-prepared<br />
Native American nurses in the country.<br />
He is renowned for his teaching and<br />
research dedicated to improving the<br />
health and well-being <strong>of</strong> Cherokee<br />
people. He is nationally recognized<br />
for developing the unique “Talking<br />
Circle” intervention to foster selfreliance<br />
and to educate Cherokee<br />
adolescents about risky behaviors,<br />
such as substance abuse. Lowe was<br />
recently awarded funding from the<br />
National Institute <strong>of</strong> Drug Abuse for his<br />
innovative research titled “Community<br />
Partnership to Affect Cherokee<br />
Adolescent Substance Abuse.”<br />
